Higo-san Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Dear fellow board members, I would like to part with one of my Higo Tsuba. I bought the tsuba from Klefisch auctions (No. 98 Lot 613) almost four years ago. It was attributed to the third Hayashi master - Tohachi - back then. Although this attribution was confirmed many times to me, I personally believe this one could have as well be made by the hands of Fukanobu, the second Kamiyoshi master. It would then obviously be one of this masterpieces. If you take a look at the price (which is about the price that I paid for it), then you will realize why I do doubt the Tohachi attribution. If it would indeed be a Tohachi, then the buyer owes me a drink or two... It is a large tsuba (8,5 cm, D 4,8 mm) with a fantastic iron (just take a look at the tekkotsu on the seppa-dai which must have covered the whole tsuba once before the artist sort of smoothened the surface in the way of the Hayashi tradition). It comes together with it's custom made fitted box (but without a pillow since I do like a bit of air around my tsuba). The very same design is published in Ito Mitsuru 'Works of Hayashi and Kamiyoshi' No. 231, p. 317. Mr Mitsuru attributed his tsuba to Kamiyoshi Fukanobu which is the reason why I do belive that my tsuba was made by Fukanobu as well. Asking price is USD 2,400.00 (or EUR 2,200.00). Worldwide shipping from Germany is included; PayPal is accepted. Best, Chris
Higo-san Posted March 18, 2017 Author Report Posted March 18, 2017 Need to raise some cash - massive price drop to USD 1,500.00 plus shipping! Best, Chris
Ken-Hawaii Posted March 19, 2017 Report Posted March 19, 2017 Very nice tsuba, Chris. Wish I was still collecting Higo! Ken
Higo-san Posted March 19, 2017 Author Report Posted March 19, 2017 Thank you for your kind words, Ken!
vajo Posted March 20, 2017 Report Posted March 20, 2017 It looks very nice Higo-san. Rembers like Tsuba from Hayashi Shigemitsu.
christianmalterre Posted March 20, 2017 Report Posted March 20, 2017 Shigemitsu did use a Yakite like finnish on his younger works....(as he did learn by the Shoami way...) in this exemplaire this essential point is missing- (so no profond Shigemitsu but a good! parallel Higo work though.) it may be attributet to the Shigemitsu line for shure!- i but do miss something...) eitherway a very nice Tsuba! ( for a reasonable price- if it should be Shigemitsu-den) or Fukanobu. ( of course) (would like so to see it in live first) Chris
