jason_mazzy Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 I have a sword in need of a new habaki as the one I have on it doesn't fit into the saya and the sword just falls out. I am sick of having to tie it together to keep it from scratching the blade. Quote
cabowen Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 In the US, Brian Tschernega (my apologies if I have spelled that incorrectly) is your best option. His work is excellent. Quote
Dr Fox Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 Hi Jason Have you checked that the koi guchi on the saya, is still offering a best grip. If its become enlarged, then a repair there could save you the cost of a habaki. Quote
Derek Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 His work is lovely. http://www.japanesesword.com/Images/Other/habaki/kinmuku_niju_mon_habaki_2_piece_.htm Quote

Dr Fox Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 On that note, with the boards help I did my own. See my post Can I repair my saya. Which reminds me, I haven't posted a finished picture. Within the hour I will post it on here in case it will help. Bear with me OK. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 who does the saya repairs? Brian Tschernega or John Tirado It depends upon what it needs, artisans prefer not to do some types of repairs. New habaki may require a new saya, that is the proper order to ensure it's correct. seattle1 Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 Hello: I have had a number of saya and habaki done by both Brian and John. Both are excellent, painstaking and professional. Arnold F. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 Jason, take a quick look at viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14776. Denis had a similar problem which he fixed himself. Ken Quote
Toryu2020 Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 Jason is it an art piece we are talking about? then definitely talk to Brian. if for a morepracticle item like an Iai sword, I would go with the DYI option myself. FWIW -t Quote
