Civilis Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I have to order something small trough amazon.co.uk and I was wondering if you guys have any tips on relative cheap nihonto or tsuba books to combine shipping with. Doesn't have to be a wealth of knowledge inside, some eye candy books are welcome too. Quote
Marius Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Facts-Fundament ... o+nakahara http://www.amazon.co.uk/Connoisseurs-Ja ... s=nagayama if you don't have them already, that is :-) Quote
Civilis Posted November 27, 2013 Author Report Posted November 27, 2013 I have the Nagayama book among other "beginner" books like Yumoto. Does the Nakahara add something to those? Is there a tsuba equivelent for the Nagayama/Nakahara, I'm also interested in film/photo so a book with nice pictures would be oke too. Quote
Stephen Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 if you looking for eye candy pix up old Christies or other auctions catalogs. for sure this one http://www.amazon.com/Hundred-Masterpie ... nese+sword and the one Clive put out if memory serves has some nice fittings....was it Clives? Marius Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I have the Nagayama book among other "beginner" books like Yumoto. Does the Nakahara add something to those? Yes, here is a brief review: http://gomabashi.blogspot.com/2011/01/r ... s-and.html I must say, that I return to this book frequently :-) Quote
Civilis Posted November 27, 2013 Author Report Posted November 27, 2013 @Mariusz, review sounds interesting, thank you @Stephen, I have some Christie's catalogues and looking to buy some more, but most are offered second hand through amazon, but are not offered by amazon themselves, so shipping can not be combined. Alex A Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Katana: The samurai sword by Stephen Turnbull Samurai 1550-1600 by Anthony Bryant Both around £5 each from Amazon, basic little books, great for journeys. Around the same price are Samurai Woman, Sekigara 1600, The Mongol invasions of Japan 1274 and 1281, which ive not read. Quote
Travis Clarke Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 Albert, Here's a pretty decent book on fittings by Joe Earle. It is relatively inexpensive and full of great photography. http://www.amazon.com/Lethal-Elegance-J ... 0878467750 http://www.amazon.com/Lethal-Elegance-S ... 0878466797 Hope this helps. Quote
Civilis Posted November 28, 2013 Author Report Posted November 28, 2013 @Travis Looks pretty interesting. Does it consist of only the Boston MFA collection? Since I already have a lot of high resolution pics of those. Quote
Stephen Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 T&C thats the book i was thinking of..lots of eye candy Quote
Travis Clarke Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Albert, I'm not sure if all the photos consist of the Boston Collection or not. I don't have the book on hand. I'm sure you would be happy with it regardless. LOTS of eye candy...as Stephen said. Quote
Civilis Posted November 29, 2013 Author Report Posted November 29, 2013 Thank you all for the tips, I think I'm going to order a couple of the suggested books. Quote
raven2 Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 Lethal Elegance does consist of the Boston MFA collection only. But a nice book, nonetheless. Quote
SaintGermain Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Hello, whats a fair price for "The connoisseurs book Japanese swords"? I finally got a nice german sword book from Markus Sesko and i don't need it anymore. I'm not sure because the prices raised very high from what i can see?? The cheapest price on amazon is 249 USD Quote
Stephen Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 150 is over priced if you ask me, imho you should keep it. you'll wish you had. if you have to sell, it should sell in a day in the for sale section at a fair price. Quote
