cabowen Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 I received the Naotake today from the ebay auction and am quite happy with it. It is short at just under 25" (seems most of these Zoheisho blades are on the short side) but the hamon has a thick nioi guchi with plentiful nie and active gunome ashi. There are tobiyaki and also utsuri-like effects all over the blade. It is quite broad with an extended kissaki and looks to be done in a Kiyomaro-esque style. It does indeed have a star stamp as suspected. All in all, a very well made blade, without flaws, and a very vivid and interesting hamon. Chalk it up as a win. Quote
Travis Clarke Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Good for you, Chris. Sounds like a nice little sword. I may have already missed this in a previous thread, but can you post a link for the old ebay auction if its still up? Or some pics? Every once and awhile you can find some decent swords on old ebay. Not often though... Quote
cabowen Posted August 30, 2013 Author Report Posted August 30, 2013 Thanks...here's a link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-ww2-Ka ... 7675.l2557 Quote
george trotter Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Hi Chris, you lucky devil...if our Aussie dollar had not lost 15% against the USD over the last month or so, I would have had a go at it myself. Nice that it has the star stamp IMHO and I wonder...are there also any arsenal inspection marks anywhere?...like maybe mune, as with other star stamp blades (Kanehide etc). Memo to self...I must check my F & G oshigata books etc for Zoheisho oshigata and see if they have star stamps and/or other marks)...nice little research project here Chris. Nice find. Regards, Quote
cabowen Posted August 30, 2013 Author Report Posted August 30, 2013 Thanks George! I will take a close look in the next day or two and report back regarding any additional stamps/marks... Quote

cisco-san Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Hi Chris, you are a really lucky guy - nice find on eBay again Quote
drdata Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Nice score, Chris. I sure cannot make out any star stamp from the pics of the auction. Good to see you appreciating "war swords", however. Quote
CurtisR Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Very nice Chris (IMH & novice opinion) - just shows me that sometimes there ARE nice values on eBay, still to be found. Ahhhh....if only I could hit the lotto :D . Curtis R. Then I could afford this: http://www.artfixdaily.com/artwire/release/9089-13th-century-samurai-swords-could-sell-for-200000-at-bonhams-new- Quote
