cabowen Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Someone recently sent me these. They inherited them and are looking for a buyer. I am working with them to set a price. Thought I would share as they are really nice... Katana has omori school kodogu, the wakizashi mino goto (?). Condition in about mint....Blades are both koto. Daito is suriage, signed and date remain. Still trying to determine the mei as it is hard to read in the photos I have....Bizen though.... The habaki and seppa are identical and I believe these were put together and worn as a daisho. Quote
Jiro49 Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Very nice! I really like the daito. Thanks for sharing. Quote
runagmc Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Hira-zukuri Bizen daito... I remember seeing a Norimitsu that was kind of similar... rare though... I bet some of the teppo guys are loving the kozuka Quote
cabowen Posted February 3, 2013 Author Report Posted February 3, 2013 Yeah, I thought so too! Kozuka is really nice....the workmanship is very good. Quote
Jean Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Hirazukuri Bizen Daito are found generally end of Nambokucho. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Are they a single lot? Could be interested in the kozuka, depending on the price, of course. Quote
cabowen Posted February 4, 2013 Author Report Posted February 4, 2013 yes. they will be sold as one lot... Quote
bigjohnshea Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 I've always thought Hirazukuri has the most intimidating look on a katana. It just looks like it will win you the fight. Awesome swords, thank you for sharing them. Quote
drbvac Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Beautiful and the condition is May be tough to come up with a fair evaluation for a straight sale - would they not bring more for the seller at a high end auction somewhere? Is there any chance that they could be made available at the set price on the Board - not that I am gonna make an offer today :D Quote
cabowen Posted February 4, 2013 Author Report Posted February 4, 2013 The owner is certain they are national treasures and has priced them accordingly. I am researching some of the signatures and plan to give him a little reality check when I am finished. I imagine he will be in denial. Look for them at an auction house in the future. Quote
Lindus Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 I have only ever seen two hira Zukuri katana, the first was offered to me by that great old dealer Chris Shewen in the 80's. Mounted in Kai gunto it was spectacular but he was asking £500, mad money at the time. Second Peter Yorke bought {as he did all the damn time} at a local auction, mounted as a Tachi from the Meiji period, even then £700 was way to much for me in those days. Would still like to own one.....so.........in mind that have a big birthday at the end of February, address any offers to...."She who rules",bottom end of Cornwall,UK. Roy Quote
Jiro49 Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Here is an example on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samurai-Sword-1 ... 3f21af79b1 Quote
Brian Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Matt, No..that is shobu zukuri. It has a shinogi line. I have a hira zukuri katana. WWII mounts..signed Muramasa. Oh how I wish it was shoshin They even tried to copy the hamon on both sides. But probably a Shinshinto utsushimono. I still enjoy it though...it's a lovely shape for a katana. Will have to post pics. Brian Quote
Jiro49 Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Sorry Brian, you are correct... I only noticed the kissaki and not the rest of the blade. Quote
