John A Stuart Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 If this tsuba wasn't signed I would have thought it was a very good example of Mito work. For some reason I have always admired tsuba whose design wraps around the rim onto the reverse. John Quote
Brian Ayres Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 Thanks Mike! It's not just the amazing Tosogu you share, but also the quality of the pictures. Thanks for taking the time to share! Brian Ayres Quote
Marius Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 Interesting subject of Nue Taiji , the killing of a mythical animal called a Nue, being attacked by Minamoto Yorimasa. tsuba by Tomotoshi It has actuallly been shot by Minamoto no Yorimasa but his retainer, Ii no Hayata finishes it off. Famous work by Yoshitoshi: http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/gallery ... 03_SE.html OK. I know. Everybody knows that  Quote

Marius Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 next time i will use google rather than my memory..... Congrats on your memory :-) I happen to have the 100 Aspects print with Yorimasa, after having shot the Nue. And I love the 36 ghosts series, though I do not have the Hayata print. Quote
Curran Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 Taking a break from marathon of work, glad I did and visited NMB. Thanks to Mike and especially Mariusk (thanks for that link), learned a bit more Japanese mythology that I had not known. Quote
