  1. Hey Kirill, Do you know about a team of collectors who talked themselves into a USA museum for KANTEI? I seem to remember they found the swords were replaced with lessor.
  2. Art - Nihonto - Antique weapons - etc. has a Customs tariff code. That Code "maybe" lumped into other Customs tariff codes. That's how counties work, they don't care. Whatever is easier. This may happen to all countries, not just the UK. It's not that bad YET, but... In America we have guns and many people don't don't like that. I like those rights! IMOP I can't believe countries find edged knifes illegal.
  3. Books??? Forget about books until you can memorize all the Japanese words and meaning in The Japanese Sword Index. It's Free!!! After that, IF you're still interested should you start to buy books.. The flash Kanji (漢字) cards come after. I've done this for a few decades and still have to look up a description here and there. What's with the community and selling books to Novices anyway.
  4. Like everything else, this is going to be a LOT more problematic going forward. Take note and be aware.
  5. Jim Kurrasch told it like it was. I got a kick out of his stories, he didn't care who thought what of him. Like I said, a lot of people have a lot of trinkets "the community" doesn't know about. If you look at it the right way, it's none of peoples business what people don't share.
  6. Why would you make a longer wakizashi? Occam's Razor, they did it, because they could.
  7. Thanks, I didn't know that either. I'm fascinated by this history.
  8. My apologies, I must of skipped that bomb day in school and went on a ayahuasca retreat. Then again, the movie "The day after" scared me for life. I can't remember if it was the red wire, or the black wire needed to be cut.
  9. Thanks Kirill, that great information I'm sure comes from documentation.
  10. No pot to stir. unless it's the kind we smoke. My point, I believe many many swords and other art was either destroyed, or "taken". War is bad and destroys cultures. We have no idea how much information and treasure was lost when the library of Alexandria burnt.
  11. Does everyone realize the allied forces burnt down Tokyo ( cluster bombs ) a few times? Then we hydrogen bombed them twice, and then confiscated what ever they could. What ever wasn't kept was dumped in the ocean,. Japan would fit in California alone.
  12. Seems like it's a joke to get people riled up, like they need help these days. Back to ebay. If you think those swords from Japan are polished by a trained Togi read the AOI article on polishing in the West. Maybe we should have a double blind polish off American style. The gold metal going to the best. People like Snoop Dog can judge.
  13. The list of the so called B team used to be and is a lot longer. Many exceptional polishers in America have passed on and didn't advertise. I remember finding one that lived 45 minutes from me. He wanted to know who told me about him and wasn't happy until an hour of convincing . This was 25 years ago. His apprentice works the same way. I believe what Adam wrote should be used and the other academic purist ad hominem Parriot should be left behind. People aren't buying it, it's 2022.
  14. I've been using a "cheap digital microscope" for years for coin collecting, Never knew why it wasn't used more in Nihonto? Bought my 1st one at a toy store .......really.!
  15. Thank you very much Chris, Danny got ahold of me and reacted professionally.
  16. If you introduce one piece of substantial contrary data ( you have ) the thesis statement / hypothesis is considered invalid and a new one must be created. With respect, 10 then 20 then 30 is not needed. That's just moving the goal post for the purpose of academic fallacy. Great research and question everything
  17. Does anyone know if Danny Massey is still around?
  18. A polished battle cut on the Mune used to bring a premium. Does it still? I've seen it on more Wakizashi for some reason. This may be debated?
  19. 20 years ago when these really hit the epray market we used to point ( Pun ) at the KISSAKI - Warning people is futile. This Art and a shady market.
  20. Thanks Brian, Ah yes, price $ I really don’t like telling anyone what’s in my wallet. Same reason prices aren’t on swords at shows and dealer pages. On that note, sword specs aren’t on many dealers pages. Art is very subjective and very emotional at times. Everyone believes what they own is much more valuable than it is and that includes ME. I may buy one sword worth $10’s of thousands, or a few worth a few thousand a piece. It’s Art, I don’t know until it talks to me. I can promise I will respect you and receive the same. I won’t be offended what price you want and don’t be offended on the price I’m willing to pay.
  21. Maybe they did it because they could emplace of practicality?
  22. What ever happen to the theory of drawing the sword on horseback vs ground and Sori? Did that go away?
  23. Keep grinding on this Glen. I always thought cast Nanban Tsuba were made in the 1700's as Christen symbols were present. I've been following this tread with great interest.
  24. Thank you Chris This is only my opinion. Papers aren’t a bonus for me as they are a hindrance. I use the same rule as flying a helicopter, 90% of the time I’m looking out the window and 10% looking at the 3 gauges that matter. Papers do little, or nothing for me.
