Jean, These are not my photos. I'm also unaware of what a HABAKO is, apologies.
-
It's in standard gunto army mounts but it could have been in a kyu gunto before for sure, the shape fits, it has a kiri mon on it too so an interesting lineage. I've seen a couple of gunto with the kiri mon usually also having a mon engraved in the habaki, while pure conjecture, i see the habaki is missing from this sword so wonder if it was scavenged, obviously shall never know.

Hi George https://japanesewarriors.co.uk/shop.php?code=50166, Mark has a good collection of gunto bits and pieces, seppa etc. I've got a few things from him before. ping him over the measurements and i'm sure he will help if he has something -

Big money swords in UK Auction……
Lareon replied to Matsunoki's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
@Lewis B this was my thought too, the prices here are a magnitude higher than elsewhere due to difficulties bringing them into the UK. -

I didin't sell no, i was looking at it too. -
Nothing in Dawson and nothing in F&G, closest i've seen is the picture in this thread of an open ended leather tassel. the strap is the same 3/8 inch size though which is something but i assumed it was from something else and put together.

Hi Kristie, it has some value, Sam is correct on the valuation, the chain hanger i can see attached to it also has some value if its original, they are quite collectible

The Tsuka is a touch larger than usual actually ( an awful lot of seppa on that sword, 8 and some are the chunky ones.

a Tassel on one of my Gunto, never seen one like it but it is definitely aged. doesn;t match my others so i assumed its just a replacement added on by someone. anyone got an idea on this one?

how to tell old nakago vs poor maintenance
Lareon replied to JeanEB's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
do you have pictures of the blade itself? looks like there is no machi -
@Bruce Pennington interesting but from memory wasnt 1943 the year that nagoya stamp transitioned to the seki stamp? this blade also august 1943 has the seki stamp where as Terrance's sword has the nagoya stamp. you would know better but does this perhaps indicate the month of transition? edit: ignore this, i can see a seki stamp now
