  2. Will do, i have an Asano Kanesane with his typical kokuin so i'll grab a photo of it for you at some point and pm you it
  3. nice to have a reunion story. Unfortunately I'm the opposite, I pick swords up and never let them go even if i should.
  4. @Bruce Pennington are you recording all appearances of kokuin? or just for your document on the different types of Kokuin?
  5. not sure about that second chain you have. but the smaller chain looks to be similar to this
  6. I can answer about the chain i think, it's very similar to the chain loop from a high class Kai Gunto, I have a gunto with the full chain mountings. Let me find a picture
  7. For clarity here's a picture of them. 2nd gen echizen kanenori echizen chikugo no kame Fujiwara kanenori Found nothing in any of my books. Markus et al.
  8. Thanks Thomas, I actually didn't know there was a requirement to dull them in peacetime.

  10. sure thing, I forgot to actually take the photos of this blade but when I'm back home (i travel a lot) I need to setup my backdrop and take some photos. As soon as I'm home I'll post them here for you
  11. Here is mine, you can see the crude field sharpening on it
  12. from the look of it, that's a cavalry sabre (M1899 Type 32) and they were issued unsharpened
  13. I'm looking for some examples of Kanenori mei that also include his botan (peony) aoi I've only managed to surface two examples that include it. anyone have any others?
  14. late 30's for me
  15. If the copper with serial no.1 came up, i'm curious what that would sell for
  16. Crazy. Then again if someone is missing one from their collection, there's not too many out there and it's a low number, maybe the lowest? Bruce or someone who is tracking the serials could probably say.
  17. Welcome to the community Dvill
  18. The price it sold for originally is close to the max of what i would pay. it's a decent amount for a low serial number, But 9,000 usd?
  19. I use Renapur leather basalm, brings back the suppleness of the leather and helps to protect the leather
  20. a couple of years ago I purchased from the estate of a collector a bag full of parts. It contained some interesting items, a tsuka wrapped in a cloth, some seppa, fuchi kabutogane etc was supposed to be a bag of unused parts not reclaimed from items but collected post war. all of the parts were pristine and brand new a few items that came with it too were leather gunto covers i've sold a couple of them since but i still have a couple my photos here are of two covers, one is full but with an original patch of leather in the middle fixing a break, potentially battlefield fix the second is a complete leather part that hasn't been finished by the workshop, no end cap and no stitching marks of a removed one I've kept them smooth and supple with leather wax and basalm and they are pretty nice
  21. I've got a few In good condition. Also have 4 on their own that I picked up at an arms fair
  22. is the thread about this sword
  23. ok, so used the liberal amounts of choji oil and a small shim of copper to clean the active rust off. Night and day now and i still have the dark black patina but far less rust.
  24. I may rub a little copper shim over the mei, not sure if anyone has used this trick before i've used it on antique rifles before, the copper is softer than the iron and removes some of the rust without affecting the barrel.
