Saw this online and was avoiding it at first. It has a mon on the Koshirae which looks to be made specifically for the sword. The blade itself is Kogerasu-Maru but one side looks blunt (if you zoom right in) Was chatting with bruce about it potentially being Murato-to or a western repurposed blade but not seen anything super similar. Also the Nakago is mumei and shape wise unsure, couldn't find a similar nakago on the Murata pictures. As a curio It's interesting but was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this.

ahhh of course it is Piers! reminds me actually i read your post before on seeing a picture of a large navy with half of the ships Manji and half ura manji in a museum the blade in question is in the following thread, so a WW2 era gendaito but the Koshirae I'm unsure.

Picked up a sword for fairly cheap with a signed Tsuba and Nakago. Was listed as a navy sword but isn't. weirdly has a military menuki but an older tsuba and unsure on the mounts, laquered ray skin saya. it's signed Teruhide and is an Ishido Teruhide blade, the sword itself is very appealing and in good polish, very good quality Gendaito which was surprising for the price. https://www.japaneseswordindex.com/teruhide.htm Unusual mounts, has two Ura-Manji (swastika) on the Fuchi, originally before i picked up the sword and looked at the Mei i was trying to work out why it would have an Ura-Manji. Now knowing who the smith is and the era, I'm more intrigued. The Nakago has two Mekugi-Ana so has been remounted in it's short life.

Front cover actually Ive read that Suda Chikamitsu used the ura manji as his symbol but I've only one source on that.

Not a manji but an ura manji / swastika I've seen it before from Hawley, I don't have his book but I've seen it once or twice before.

Still a little unsure of this one, taken some better pictures with my DSLR, I know there are a lot of gimei of Yoshimichi, if there's anyone with a good understanding on the Osaka branch yoshimichi group comment on this? I can provide sori and measurements if that helps too.

It's been a couple of years since i picked this sword up but thought i'd update you guys on it's journey. I tried to facilitate shinsa at the time and showed it to a few people in the community and in the end decided to leave it as it was. Since then I picked up a couple of other blades that are worthy of polish and papers and I'm happy to say that this week it started it's journey to Japan for Polish and Papers. Will keep you guys updated as it goes through the Journey

Hi Malc. You will most likely receive communication from border force but it can take a while. It's definitely a problem that it was labelled imitation and you're going to have to go through the process with that. You're going to need any and all documentation to show that it isn't and meets the rules and regulations necessary. Then you're going to have to answer as to why it was described as imitation. The item won't be destroyed instantly. They should contact you first Ups has their own customs so you're going to need to contact them and find out what has happened. It can take a while but I've been through it before and you need to get hold of the rare UK call centre and just keep contacting over and over

Oh it's absolutely fine, the whole thing is confusing, with the off signature I've always been wary of it, I imagine then someone has added the mei in recent times with a chisel and put together a set of mounts for it to try and pass it off as a yoshimitsu. Luckily it's of no loss to me as It was given to me but I'll keep hold of it and keep it out of the Gimei pool.
