Not nessesaryily on tsuba like it's in the database i must (assume) strokes actually conect to others . can't seem to count strokes accurately either found another one. "OMI" Cab, i can not find your hint "pronounced "so" " poke me in the right direction? I've looked at kanji for tosogumei and kuni am in the right place?? as you can tell, i know nothing, and i do apreciate your helps. it must be somewhat of a bore with someone as unknowing as i. please be patient when the light finnally goes on i'll get it! you guys are great !! Charles
  2. Gentlemen I 'm thinking the stye is Shishiai-bori possible Nara or Ko nara???? first Kanjin signiture is ??? MUNE???? second one is giving me some trouble charly ps-do not have tsuba here at work but will measure thickness of tsuba tomorrow as it's very heavy and thick. could have some bearing on orig. yes???
  3. Gentlemen Thank you both for your quick aswers, and Cab i was going to ask that question which side was what thanks up front now to get going !!! fun charles
  4. Gentlemen I'd like to take a step towards "learning" to read Tsuba Kanji. and tsubas in general Now Please no answers, only guide me to an answer. first off- the tsuba attracts a magnet so i'll assume it's iron secondly - the style of decoration is a way of telling which school did it?? That's a question . thridly- i will check the Kanjin pages for the script written there when i have a school or (den?) is this correct?? Please advise if thinking is correct Charles L. grusovnik
  5. Black or red buffalo horn availible at North coast knives or Texas knifemaker supplies great for shirasaya's Charles L. Grusovnik
  6. Gentlemen Thank you for the replys, i've started to look at tsubas in a different way (the boston link way cool!) Ford, you've given me a mini education , thank you sir. Charles L. grusovnik
  7. Gentlemen for a while now (approximatly three years) i've been reading these pages and quite frankly i'm stumped as to what makes a tsuba pleasing to look at. Plain round ones seem , well PLAIN to me. ornate carved gold , silver ones seem gaudy to me i'm afraid i don't get it. Ok plain, simple = clean free of clutter??? but why then the higly carved gold encrusted gaudy ones?? although i can relate to the obvious crafmanship involved, what makes for that super tsuba??? enlighten this barbarian for i can't seem to make heads nor tails I like Fords Tiger, and also some of his soft metal tsubas he's at times posted Charles L. Grusovnik

  15. I have my swords and guns in my den, displayed, the house is well gaurded by my neighbors, of course this doesn't guarantee anything but i feel it cuts down on the probabilities. I have a GOOD fireproof safe for my stamps and all the papers for the swords. We have few guests over and i don't advertise my collectables save for some trusted friends When the grand kids are over i put away any blades that may get disturbed by the girls playing I like to have them (the swords) out to look at as i feel to , hiding them away feels wrong to me. Charles L grusovnik
  16. James Although i'm just a newbie here and i haven't seen too many blades, i must say that blade is beatiful!!!! The polisher in my humble unknowing opinion did a fantastic job!!!
