  1. The Shibata Ka finally arrived today. It looks like a solid sword. Very thick and wide. 26 inch nagasa. No flaws, no chips, O-kissaki, ubu ha. Unfortunately it has fingerprints etched into the blade and also looks like someone took an abrasive to it, and the habaki is stuck. All in all I’m happy with it. Here’s some (poor) pictures of it. It’s hard to see hamon and hada due to the state of polish.
  2. Wow. Thank you for the translation and the information. I was familiar with the smith but had no idea about the poem. I was thinking special order for someone high ranking. I’ll post more pictures of the sword when I have it in hand. thanks again. This is a lot of information to digest.
  3. Hello, I am curious too what this sword tang says. If anyone can please help. Thank you, Nick
  4. Dewa Daijo Fujiwara Kunimichi
  5. Thanks Ray, it’s a good possibility.
  6. Hi everyone, I have a sword signed Hizen Kuni Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tada. More than likely Tadayoshi. The way the nakago has been shortened and angled is strange. I’ve never seen anything like it. The sword is fitted in military mounts. Does anyone have any opinions on why the tang would be angled in such a way?
  7. Is there any reason for the green saya? Or was it just an optional color.
  8. Hello everyone. Anyone ever seen this one?

    Swordsmith issue

I have one in type 98 mounts.
  10. Hey Okan, I would bet on Meiji. But yes very hard to tell anything about it in it’s current state. Sad someone cleaned the nakago.
  11. Thank you Jean. I think the person I bought it from scrubbed the tang clean. I don’t think the sword is worth the cost of a polish to me. My personal opinion on the age of the sword would be somewhere in the late 1800’s. Does it look like the Ha mache and mune mache have been moved up on the blade slightly to you?
  12. Jean, Thank you. Here is a gallery of hopefully better pictures. Looking forward to hearing all opinions. Couldn’t post pics on site because of size. https://imgur.com/a/fVEnwOg
  13. Also the nagasa is 26 inches. And 35 and 1/4 overall length bare blade.
  14. Hello everyone, I am in the possession of a ww2 Japanese sword that I really don’t know anything about. It looks traditionally made. There is no signature. The tang looks like it’s been scrubbed clean. Can anyone suggest a round about age of the sword. Photos in link. I’ll post more photos if needed. https://imgur.com/a/UlevsIi
  15. Hello all, I have read many threads about these swords made by Kunimori but haven’t really found any definitive answers to whether they are Gendai or oil quenched western steel. I seen one example with the same mei papered by the NBTHK but that is the only one. So my question is are they considered Gendai. Oil quenched or water? And will this sword paper?
  16. I own a sword signed Ichimonji Amahide kitau kore with no stamps or arsenal marks. Interesting read. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Sorry I forgot about dimensions. Nagasa is 27 1/2 inches nakago is 7 inches overall length 34 1/2 inches blade is 1 1/2 inches wide at hamache and 3/4 of an inch wide at the yokote. hope that helps some. I think there’s only 1 sword society in nyc that I’m aware of. Haven’t attended any meetings yet.
  18. Thanks for replying. Would this be considered kazu–uchi mono?
