  1. I have this sword. Pretty obvious gimei, but I am looking for opinions on whether the nakago looks altered/aged. https://imgur.com/a/NaRh08q
  2. I agree. Suke was my guess because it was the closest I could find. But I’m far from good at translating kanji, let alone kanji with 500 years of rust build up. Thank you for your help.
  3. That’s what I was thinking. It’s hard to see but I believe 禄 is the second character. Thanks for your help.
  4. Can someone please help me translate. I believe it starts bishu osafune but that’s all I got. Thank you.
  5. Thanks guys.
  6. I have a tsuba with some kanji on it I can’t translate. Can somebody please help translate some of the characters are hard to see on the right side.
  7. Thank. I originally thought muromachi but the lack of curvature threw me off. I will take better pictures tomorrow in the daylight.
  8. Thanks for the reply Chris. What looks odd about it?
  9. Is this katana Shin Shinto or older. 30” nagasa. Very tiny kissaki.
  10. Can’t read the whole signature but I think it’s Kunitsugu dated 1848? But can’t make out the first 2 kanji. Any help is appreciated. Thank you
  11. Thank you. Any good books to start with? I have the book “the samurai sword handbook” also the Compton collection, and 2 of the older Hawleys books on sword smiths and a book on tangs and signatures. But I’m really looking for a book that puts everything into perspective as far as dating swords and identifying swords. Basically being able to tell what’s what from looking at a blade.
  12. I’m pretty new to Japanese swords. I’m 35 and just started collecting about a year ago. A lot of this information is new to me. I appreciate everyone’s help. I own a few swords. But there’s so much information I don’t know where to start really.
  13. I’ll add a pic of the NTHK papers.
  14. I was told godai.
  15. So you want to see more pics. I’ll post them. I thought it would be told through signature, chisel strokes.
  16. Appreciate it Jean. Any suggestions on generation?
