Hi Michael, I do not have the piece in-hand but will confirm when I return to the states in a couple of weeks... Best regards, Ray
-
Thank you. Here are photos of the entire piece, which a family member purchased from Aoi last January on my recommendation.

Thank you Steven, and much appreciate the translation John.

Would anyone be able to assist with this? It appears to be an orphan menuki which has been re-mounted on a tobako-ie. The closest that I could come was 武弘 but that does not look right to my eyes. Best regards, Ray

I had been giving some thoughts to purchasing this (orphan) kinmuku menuki. Would like ideas on an attribution. Goto? Any feedback welcome... Kind regards, Ray

I am just curious, where is this sword for sale? I have been seeing this sword posted everywhere by different individuals, including personal emails/messages for translations and submissions to different Facebook groups. I do not have any personal interest in buying this sword, just curious to know why it is getting so much attention.

If I am reading correctly, this is a mumei tanto (circa Meiji) attributed to Miyamoto Kanenori. You will find a lot of information online if you search for his name. -
On my way back home from the Orlando sword show I received an inquiry from one of his unlucky customers. when I explained what it is that he had purchased he left a negative feedback on eBay warning others that these items are Chinese fakes. Somehow it seems that the seller got that warning and negative feedback removed.

Short moroba tanto is one type of sugata seen in Muromachi Bizen. The examples I have seen were generally nice. A Yozosaemon was for sale in Japan nice long ago, which I believe we discussed here.
-
Still available. Any questions, please email raymondsinger@gmail.com. Best regards, Ray

Moroba tanto. Translation is correct. I am not certain, but my gut feeling is that the mei is good. I would point out that the nakago appears to have been reshaped and is not ubu.
-
Chikushu ju Minamoto Nobukuni Heishi___. I would guess this is Heishiro Yoshimasa.
-
Very bad Chinese fake
-
100% Brian Tschernega. He also makes shirasaya, in addition to being a world-class habaki-shi.
-
BTW, I am also open to receiving an alternate attribution for these menuki. Best regards, Ray

This thread has been rather quiet. Here are two orphans that I would like to match. A scholar / nobleman and one of Hotei. Best regards, Ray

Very nice set of shakudo menuki of kikusui (chrysanthemum on the water). Deep black shakudo. Purchased from Bob Benson in 2003. At this time he mentioned that the work resembled Goto Mitsuyoshi. Never submitted to shinsa, so I cannot confirm either way. Boxed with a stamp reading Nakamura. $600 (plus shipping and PayPal) Best regards, Ray
