  1. On hold - that was fast
  2. Dear all! Selling off my gunto spare parts including an iron habaki, several seppa, two single fuchi, a screw menuki (or mekugi?) and a couple of menuki (one with a kamon). Asking price for everything is EUR 50 plus shipping SOLD! Shipping costs vary (up to EUR 25 worldwide) Best Chris
  3. Kantei is always a great thing to do! Your tsuba, Steve, reminds me of a Nara Arichika tsuba with a very similar tadpole design (but without fukurin and zogan). I would attribute both tsuba to Mito tradition, however. The nanako of the first tsuba does not look like Gotō nor anything the Yokoya and succeeding schools would have made. It does fit into the Mito box, however. And the design also looks quite Mito-like to me. Best Chris
  4. SOLD to a friend of mine outside the NMB! But thanks for looking at it and the funny discussion about our beloved wives :-)!
  5. Indeed - that would have been such a cool project for the upcoming holidays and worth the effort of restoration!
  6. And that is the very reason why this one is for sale … I have just bought the barrel myself, my wife saw it and I realized the look on her face being best described as „not again“.
  7. Dear all this is the second koshirae I would like to part with and a highlight at a very reasonable price (thanks to the Yen). A nice and original early Edo/late Muromachi period Tensho koshirae featuring a Ko Shoami (?) tsuba with lots of tekkotsu and yakite with the design of a bamboo in the snow which originally came from the collection of Sasano Masayuki. The Ko Kinko menuki represent eggplants (nasu) and are made of shakudo that has been fire-gilded (keshi-toki). The Kashira is made of dark horn that has been covered with black urushi. The Fuchi is made of suaka that is covered with a thick shakudo foil. Tsunagi nagasa: 70 cm Tsunagi nakago: 23 cm Tsunagi total length: 93 cm Asking price: EUR 2,800.00 plus actual shipping costs (varying depending on your location between about EUR 15 up to EUR 80) Kind regards Chris
  8. Dear all I am offering a very well done Edo period tanegashima barrel with a jinshin registration number. The barrel is decorated with a fierce looking dragon with clouds and lightning - I am sure that this one will come out nicely once repatinated! 壬申五〇六番 = Jinshin Nummer 506 calibre: 17.5mm/about 8 monme Length: 70 cm without screw Screw: 6,5 cm Asking price: EUR 450 plus shipping costs (Germany: EUR 10.49/EU: EUR 21.49/GB: EUR 34.99/ US 77.99) Best Chris
  9. Dear all I would like to part with some koshirae - the first comes without a tsuba and is a breath-taking Gotō-style koshirae: Magnificent koshirae with a saya lacquered with gold nashiji urushi with scattered cherry blossoms in gold, aokin hiramaki-e and takamaki-e. The tsuka is covered with ray skin and wrapped with a black silk. The fuchi kashirae are made of shakudo with a nanako ground depicting samurai in a pine grove (the kiwame mei Kenjō Saku Mitsuyoshi Kao (顕乗作 光美 [花押]) has to be considered gimei as the work resembles Kaga Gotō). The menuki each in the shape of kabuto. The koiguchi, kurigata and kojiri are made of gold lacquer. The high quality tsunagi is inscribed Mitsuhira (光平 = Heki Mitsuhira) in pencil on the back. Dimenensions: Tsunagi Nagasa: 70.3 cm Tsunagi Nakago: 21.7 cm Tsunagi Total length: about 92 cm Asking price: EUR 1,700.00 plus actual shipping costs (varying depending on your location between about EUR 15 up to EUR 80) I am open to reasonable offers - but unfortuantely, I cannot accept trade-ins. Kind regards Chris

  13. Dear all I am selling a helmet stand made from antique oak wood. I have commissioned the piece at a local craftsman. Height is about 40cm. Asking price is EUR 110 plus actual shipping costs Best Chris PS: I also have a helmet stand in modern design made from steel (which was quite expensive…) which I am also selling for EUR 110. PM me if interested. Both stands are available at EUR 200 plus shipping.

  15. Dear all thanks to a friend of mine, I had the opportunity to check the reference pieces in the Nara San Saku book. I came to the conclusion that my fuchi is unfortunately gimei. First of all, a mei on the right side SEEMS possible - there are reference pieces for the second generation Toshinaga (if it has ever existed) with a mei on the right side. It would be highly unlikely for a first generation Toshinaga but still possible. However: whereas the first kanji is typical for the first generation Toshinaga, the second kanji differs at the vertical strokes from important reference pieces. At this point, the only valid conclusion is that it must be considered gimei. So what do we have? We have a typical Nara fuchi which shows some features which can be also found on Toshinaga pieces (dimensions, surface structure and the dispersion on the seppa area). Unfortunately someone decided to put a mei on it which does not belong there. Best Chris
  16. Thank you, Dale! The first one seems to be authentic. I think that we can consider the other two as Gimei. Kind regards Chris
  17. Dear all I am looking for reference material on F/K by Nara Toshinaga which do either show monkeys/eagles or which are signed on the right side of the fuchi. Let me explain the background of my somehow strange request. I have in my collection a wakizashi koshirae which has formerly been owned by the now closed Tosogu Museum in Tokyo (sold via Christies in the early 2000s). The koshirae has undergone a restoration in the second half of the 20th century. As part of this restoration process, a new saya was made, the original menuki were removed AND the fuchi/kashira WERE REPATINATED. As a result, they look rather new but could in fact be much older. As the fuchi is signed "Toshinaga Kao" and we all know that his mei was very often faked, I had dismissed them as gimei ever since the koshirae came into my possession. I still consider the mei to be at least critical BUT after studying the workmanship for a while I must say that they are really well done. In particular, the ishime ground is very appealing (I tried to focus on this feature in my pictures). The easiest way would of course be to submit them for shinsa. However, the NBTHK has become very hesitant in the last year and when it comes to one of the big names, I guess that my best result could be horyu. And that does not help me at all. That means that I have to trust my own (and maybe your) judgement and would be gratefull for reference material on F/K by Toshinaga (ideally from the book on the Nara San Saku). Kind regards and a big thanks Chris
