Dear all I would like to part with a very beautiful little kozuka. The pictures will only give a first impression of the design and age. It looks much nicer in hand! Please be aware of the rare dimensions of this piece which will very well fit on a Momoyama or earliest Edo period Tensho koshirae but will likely be too small for later koshirae. The piece comes without NBTHK papers but is either Ko Kinko or Ko Gotō in my opinion. The shakudo has a deep black patina with the gilding on the yanone being almost intact. There are some small damages which is normal due to its age. The nanako is still intact at the rim and around the arrow. Dimensions: Length: 9.57 cm Width: 1.34 cm Height: 0.47 cm Asking price: WITHDRAWN Shipping costs are: EUR 6.19 Germany EUR 14.49 EU EUR 19.49 UK EUR 26.49 US/Worldwide PayPal payments (Friends&Family or plus PayPal fees) possible! Dear all I would like to part with a small but very well made item: a fuchi signed by Shoami Masanori who was (together with a second generation) a very important master of the Kyo Shoami group. What looks to be rather simple at the first sight becomes more and more fascinating when taking a closer look (and that is what Japanese Art is all about or is it not ;)?): the fuchi is decorated with kind of shogi (氏) elements highlighted with gold. What appears to be scratches are actually leaves which are carved in kebori into the iron between the shogi elements. A very beautiful and balanced design which witnesses great craftsmanship! Length: 39.8 mm Width: 24.0 mm Height: 9.3 mm Nakago-ana: 26.6 mm (max) x 8.3 mm (max) There is no kashira but the fuchi would go very well with a horn kashira and could be used for mounting a tensho koshirae. Asking price: EUR 90.00 plus shipping costs Kind regards Chris

Ah - thanks, Piers! I think you hit the nail on the head! I know that the 網代笠 ajiro-gasa was a traveling hat but what is the meaning commonly associated with a battered ajiro-gasa? Does it mean that every journey (or even life itself) comes to an end sooner or later?

A kasa with a twig (Edit: these are strings as Piers kindly points out in the next post) on top of it; was re-used as a tobacco pouch ornament at some point - 2.1 cm x 1.1 cm

Dear all as I have learned that there seems to be a huge interest for gunto spare parts, I have looked through my collection and found another fuchi which may be of interest. It is made from copper and has three marks on it (I have always thought that these were Kinko stamps but then found a website explaining the background: http://ohmura-study.net/794.html). My fuchi has three stamps that can be identified as follows: 1) Private sector sword company trademark: Co,Ltd. Suya Shōten 2) Inspection mark: 東 Army Arsenal Tōkyō Factory 3) Supervisor Arsenal trademark: Army Arsenal Tōkyō Factory As I am no collector of military swords, I do not know how rare these are or what they usually sell for - so please feel free to correct my asking price or make an offer. But I find the history behind these fuchi quite interesting as normally you do not know who made these. Dimensions: Nakago ana: 2.5 cm x 0.62 cm max Fuchi: 1.1 cm (height) x 3.82 cm x 2.5 cm Asking price is EUR 75 plus shipping (up to EUR 23 worldwide depending on your location) Best Chris

Kantei is always a great thing to do! Your tsuba, Steve, reminds me of a Nara Arichika tsuba with a very similar tadpole design (but without fukurin and zogan). I would attribute both tsuba to Mito tradition, however. The nanako of the first tsuba does not look like Gotō nor anything the Yokoya and succeeding schools would have made. It does fit into the Mito box, however. And the design also looks quite Mito-like to me. Best Chris

Dear all this is the second koshirae I would like to part with and a highlight at a very reasonable price (thanks to the Yen). A nice and original early Edo/late Muromachi period Tensho koshirae featuring a Ko Shoami (?) tsuba with lots of tekkotsu and yakite with the design of a bamboo in the snow which originally came from the collection of Sasano Masayuki. The Ko Kinko menuki represent eggplants (nasu) and are made of shakudo that has been fire-gilded (keshi-toki). The Kashira is made of dark horn that has been covered with black urushi. The Fuchi is made of suaka that is covered with a thick shakudo foil. Tsunagi nagasa: 70 cm Tsunagi nakago: 23 cm Tsunagi total length: 93 cm Asking price: EUR 2,800.00 plus actual shipping costs (varying depending on your location between about EUR 15 up to EUR 80) Kind regards Chris
