Hi , I have purchased seppa from Fred Lohmans online store. There are three types available , ie edge finish. While they are not copper , they are of good quality and look great when fitted. You will need to file the nakago opening to suit your swords nakago, the easy process is to match mark your old seppa. Chris NZ

The Connoisseur's Book of Japanese Swords
cuttingedge59 replied to Loco Al's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Hi All, A bit shocked at the prices now for this book , should have brought more when I got mine. Just checked my Amazon account and I brought my hard cover copy back in 2011 for a whopping $66 usd including postage to New Zealand and we are at the bottom of the world. Packed away at the moment due to other projects but is as in new condition and a keeper. Chris NZ -
Hi all, Just wanted to acknowledge the outstanding service I got from Grey recently when making a purchase from his site. As I live some way from the US I asked Grey if he would hold the tsuba and if agreeable send it and some other purchases together .This he did while keeping me in the loop as to progress. Absolutley a brillant result when all is in hand. :D Highly recommend this seller for anything nihonto related , especially if you want service from a distance. Chris

Thanks to those that replyed. Think I will take a gamble and send just the tsuka as If it comes back tight I do have enough skills to ease it to fit well. The tsuka core is in good condition and worth retaining . I would rather have a tight tsuka than a missing sword . .Chris

Hi all , I have a Shinto katana That needs the tsuka rewrapped . It is all there and the original tsuka is in reasonable shape and fits well . I am thinking that David McDonald would be the man to do it , but have a question of the board regarding the process and end result . Reading Davids discription of how he undertakes the rewrap ,he mentions that because of the tension used the tsuka quite often shrinks slightly and needs to be checked on the nakago . This rewrap is for display only. As i live a long way from the US I was hoping to send just the tsuka for this process. Has anyone sent just their original tsuka for rewrap and was the fit on the nakago still ok when it returned. Regards, Chris

American polisher... Eric Roush
cuttingedge59 replied to silverfox2965's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Hi All , An update to this post. I was fortunate enough after commenting on Roush,s facebook page to be contact by Mr Jack fiorito who had logged a case with the DA in california and had also involved the Santa Cruz sheriifs office in regard to outstanding items he had with Roush. This case was possibly going to a small claims court. There where four of us who where part of the case Including Frank R from here. Another member provided a confirmed address that Roush works from , which has been confirmed as his place of work by the DA . ( Freedom Blv) . Roush was made aware of the pending action and surprise surprise finally we all have our property back . The local law is now well of roush's carry on's and will keep an eye on him . For anyone else with outstanding items go after him now as he probably will respond. ejroush@yahoo.com Unfortuneatly the work is way below par and will involve time and money to fix. A long expensive lesson but at least I have it. Chris -

Nathan, As the other board members have stated stay away, The guy drives around in a car avertising a ninja school and has been seen in public dressed in full samurai armour complete with swords.Even seen pics on his web site . Pretty much says it all. Was tempeted myself once , asked the questions of the board and stayed away. Found feed back on other sword sites and they seem to be worse than Roush , Years waiting and have a habit of making peoples property disappear. Have a look at David Hofhines site , Seems to be a straight up guy and comes with a good rep. http://www.swordpolisher.com/kensei.html Regards, Chris -
False advertising for those that know

Aweome ideas here guys , things are afoot regarding our friend but all a bit hush hush now. Will comment at a more appropiate time . Have thought of the irs myself as payed thru a transfer agent and i bet it was never declared. Do like the idea of Jail though , maybe some of his glass art works could go with him for the amusement of those with somewhat more unusal tastes. Chris Nz -

Hi All , Interesting comments concerning our friendly cockroach . As I live in New Zealand which is definetly across border I have approached the FBI via their internet crime complaint centre (IC3) and logged a complaint some time ago. Logged all the details including when , where and how much was involved. Have never heard a thing back so have to say I don't think this going to work . Maybe they are to busy catching the big boys or I am just a small fish in a large pond. Chris, NZ -

Since the owner of this site sells on e-bay , thought I would post the link kindly provided by another member for a bit of a laugh or for those who have issues with the site owner a bit of a cry. Some funny discriptions in a sad way in light of the owners true character. http://santacruzsoulsurfer.wix.com/rous ... pollishing Chris

Jay , He has one of mine nearly finished ?. If you go visit I can provide photos and would be delighted if you took it away and then we can sort from there . Live out of country so a tough one to sort for me. Chris

Buying a sword abroad.
cuttingedge59 replied to Dr Fox's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Dennis, Is it easier to import a sword personally into the UK, ie actually carry it thru customs. If this was the case prehaps you could purchase internationally and have the item shipped to a fellow board member in France and then cross the channel and pick up said item . As i understand France is a day trip from some area's of the UK . Chris -
Good on you Frank , Have tried a similar action myself but being out of country they tend to ignore my correspondence. Would strongly sugguest anyone in country follow Franks action . Time to shut his guy down for good. Must mention the help I am getting from the board members especially Matt Lapoint who has been outstanding. Chris M

American polisher... Eric Roush

Hi Brian, I understand why you might be wary of posting this but in fairness the guy has my property and money and is not being true to his word. Being somewhat afar from the usa any option that might result in an end to this issue I will persue . Several other members who have seen this listing agree that it is him and looking at the feed back on previous sales , all are indicitive of his trades. Also the glass furnace he sold (feedback ) I personally know he was trying to sell on his other e-bay user id. Already someone has sugguested this listing is my property . However althought the tsuba is VERY similar the mounts and Mei are not the same, nor is the saya .So with relief I can say not mine. I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge Matts help with this , as without his efforts I would be at a loss as to how to deal with this situation. Chris -

Interesting . To the other Chris , helpful sugguestions only please as we all have been learned a tough lesson and rubbing ones face in it just makes me . I have logged a case with the FBI Ic3 complaint system over three or more months ago and have heard nothing from any state side law enforcement authority , maybe there are just two many. Gary maybe you would care to visit Eric on my behalf since you have done so before . Sorry if I sound somewhat jaded , have appreciated very much the information and help form the great people on this forum. Was just looking to move this forward. Chris, Nz

Anyone in contact with Eric Roush at the moment. He seems to have gone to ground leaving people with Unfinished business. Got suckered in and now like others can't get what I payed for. Anyone living close to Aptos California I would be interested in hearing from . Chris

Ebay seller Showa22
cuttingedge59 replied to ww2collectors's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
Not good, For a start he is suspected of pushing up the bids himself to reach his expected sell price , ie shilling. Brought a Handachi mounted katana off him, (very nice copper fittings ) which turned up in good time. HOWEVER the whole thing had obviously been put together, tsuba filed to fit and the tsuka wobbled around like a fish out of water. Then the fun started as his return policy was actioned. Sent it back and claimed a refund which he stalled on , aclaiming he was out of country ,then that he never recieved the katana. Got on to the courier company who confirmed delivery including who and time . Surprize ,surprize he had no listing during this time . Finally got my money !!! Another e-bay shark, have come across other people with similar problems with this dealer. Would not deal with him. Chris -
