  1. What a beautiful blade.. I love the O-Kissaki
  2. I love Nihonto's that are not the ordinary, that makes us all think about it, why it was built, and for what reason.
  3. I'm confused. Your saying the Tanto is a movie prop ? From what I've been told that it's an Edo Era Tanto, and I believe to be also.
  4. I ask because I'm not 100% positive. Plus I wanted to share it with everyone in here also.. Thanks for the input from everyone, much appreciated..
  5. Yes, I agree the red rust is not good, should be black rust. It all fits perfectly, and seems original with the exception it does seem that may be that the Tsuba might have been replaced. It looks like someone in the past tried to use some type of chemical to remove some of the surface black rut to see if it was signed. I'm by far an expert, but it looks and feels really good. The Tsuba, I do like on it though. I can post better pics of the Tsuba only tomorrow if that helps..
  6. Another one I picked up recently. Beautiful mountings. The ITO wrap is traditional, along with the single cord type ITO wrap, wrapped with it together. I love it when I can find original ITO wrapping with cord also. The temper line is suguha temper pattern and has deep temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada, no opening, no blister and in good condition. The scabbard urushi lacquered wood scabbard, shows minor lacquer loss but no dent, no crack and in good condition. Tsuba is mokko shape soft metal tsuba. It measures 7+7/8" cutting edge, 21mm width, 2 mm thickness at the notch and 15" in mountings. I'm trying to rebuild my collection, it will take some time. Nara-Gatana tanto in nice mountings. The blade is MUMEI, hirazukuri shape. Hirazukuri shape, Edo period, Early 1800'S.
  7. This is one of my new blades on the way to me from Japan. The seller said it was an Yari mounted as an Tanto, I believe it to be an KEN, not Yari. It is EDO period, copper Habaki. It is MUMEI. What do you all think ?
  8. @ Thomas, thank you for the info. I'll try and find that book. My Nihonto does have two mon on it. Brian
  9. It's more info then what I had before, and happy to have that now. I have a name of the family that used the Mon is what I meant. Thanks Brian
  10. Okay, thanks Brian, I understand. But this one does seem to be able to be traced back, Now that I have a name to go with this particular crest. I'm trying to do as much research as possible on this Nihonto. Brian
  11. Yes, it does. Here is what I found, thanks for helping me, would this have been owned by an Samurai, and not an merchant. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takenaka_clan Brian
  12. Okay this Mon / Crest is on my favorite Nihonto in my collection right now, I'm not bringing up the subject matter of the sword, but I need to know if anyone has any idea how to identify the Mon / Crest on my sword. It is on my sword in two places, if I can identify the family of it, it would help me with the research of this Nihonto. Seems to be fashioned in Bamboo leaves. thank you Brian
  13. Yes, I noticed the Tsuba was replaced... I was wondering the same thing. Brian
  14. Yes, I received mine as well, I cannot attend, I do have the 3 day ticket, if anyone wants it, just let me know and it is yours. The book, and ticket was given to me, so I will give it to anyone that needs another ticket. I'm keeping the book though. Brian
  15. Remember after you clean the cosmoline off the blade, do not put it back into the says, as the inside walls of it is probably covered in cosmoline also, and you will be putting it back on the blade what you have cleaned off already. Brian
  16. Yes, i have one blade that has been on the waiting list to be polished for about 3 months now, I will be sending him this one to have polished instead. I also think once polished that it would have no problems being papered. I can see so much then what the pics are not showing, and it does NOT run off like some have thought so. Yes, the Tsuka will be re-done by a professional, I just didn't like seeing it sitting next to other Nihonto's with the bare Tsuka, that's the only reason I wrapped it myself, and I know I'm no pro at it, but it will do for now. I think the two blades posted here are really nice, my favorites of all my Nihonto's, but of course I do like my Kanezane's, but those are Showa swords. Brian
  17. Look at pic 28, it does need a good polish to bring it out. Brian
  18. Another pic for you. I hope this what you like, I know after a good polish, the Hamon, and Hada will come out beautifully, and the true beauty the blade will come out. Brian
  19. Jean, This is the best that I could do, i do not own a tripod, i guess I need to buy one, the Boshi is the same on the opposite side as well. I think the pattern for this is called Ichimai. I hope these will work for you. Brian
  20. @ Jean. Here are some more and better pics, the wife brought the good camera home from work, all i had to use was my iPad, and not very good picture taking. I hope these pics helps, it does have the full temper line, and I did another ed line drawing of it, I hope this helps. By the way, the two pictured are absolutely my two favorite swords in my collection right now. In the last pic, you can plainly see that the Hamon does not break off, or run off, it run all the way through the Boshi, slightly up, and backwards towards the top of the Mune. Kinda like the one does in the blade on the top on the stand, that one shows it so much better, as it has a new polish done to it recently. But these are my two favorite blades in my collection right now. Thanks Brian
  21. @ Martin I'm sending the Tsuka out to have it done by a professional, and the Tsuba matches the fittings, so why would I change it. Brian
  22. No, the Hamon does not break or run off anywhere, except when it it is suppose to, as it should. My red line is not exact, I will try and take better pics. Brian
  23. @ Ed I don't own any Chinese fakes, do I wouldn't know. Yes for an amateur I think it looks good. @ Chris Don't know, but it's what I see. Brian
