  1. It's always good to keep things in perspective. $55k to some folks is like you taking a risk for a few grand for an on-line Tadayoshi that didn't paper I don't mean any offense, because I have to remind myself all the time.
  2. Steve many thanks I really appreciate it. I know what the hamon looks like in hand of course but am curious at how they describe sobthis gives me a point of doing some research. The Katsumitsu is interesting. The ura seems classic choji but the moore is choji and then it looks like perhaps some of the clay moved? During quenching because it's smeared and undefined and looks like the most obvious bright utsuri.
  3. Anyone please Buehler? I'll buy you a Dr Pepper.
  4. I'm wondering what they say for the Hamon and the Boshi on the Tsunemitsu. Thank you.
  5. I haven't had the sheet fully translated yet so appreciate that info. I was reading about the Ishido school and how they were very similar in style to Bizen smiths. Who was the specific smith they wrote down or was it just how you stated. It would be interesting to see if the NBTHK would come to the same conclusion.
  6. John thanks for responding. What are you thoughts? Good enough to see enough or cost benefit does not measure up.
  7. I will get some pics when I get the sword back.
  8. You can see from the pics it's out of polish or old polish and has a couple nicks in the ha. Certainly not at its best. There are no forging flaws and I'd hate for a polish to find one. You raise a good point though and wise to consider. I did have a quality shirasaya and habaki made for it to protect what I have.
  9. What are your thoughts on the classification as wakizashi?
  10. Wow. That was lightening fast Ray thank you. What about the rest of the Japanese I can't read like the date, hamon, etc. I'm also surprised is was ubu nakago and wakizashi. If I recall I measured it at 24" and change, and I had thought it was suriage. THese are positive results I think.
  11. Was hoping I could get some help translating my Katsumitsu results from Chicago. Thanks.
  12. I was able to get this sword to Chicago, courtesy of Swordguyjoe as I wasn't able to be there. It papered to Musashi Ishido Tsunemitsu. Not sure if it's the first or second but both are rated jo saku and ryowazamano. I believe the first is higher rated by Hawley. Now to see if the sword can handle a polish. https://nihontoclub.com/smiths/TSU475 https://nihontoclub.com/smiths/TSU476
  13. Bazza, is it just me or is the hada in your sword very Hizen like?

What does this spot look like to you and how concerning is it? Of course the pics make it look much worse. Thanks.
  15. Seriously now. I am barely an amateur but if this sword would polish out just fine than I would be amazed. I've had 3 blades polished thus far that started out in far better shape and I was surprised at the flaws that appeared.
  16. Let me know what I found and if they are a good smith. I like the saya a lot.
  17. What does the 4 seals mean v. say 6 seals? I've seen varying numbers on papers. Are more red seals better?
  18. I'd sell the koshirae it's not attractive in my opinion
  19. Ahhh that helps a lot. Thank you!
  20. Piers that is great so there is a specific smith attribution. Now, I can't find anything out there on no Kami Masakane. I checked Hawleys and Fujishiro. I didn't see any references on the net searching no Kami Masakane.
  21. Great info John, I appreciate the help. I will be doing some reading this evening. This was the other part of the paper I forgot to include.
  22. Hey John thanks. Unless I'm really dense, is their a smith attribution or a school or is Owari Seki the school?
  23. Thank you both. I can do some research now.
  24. Thank you.
