LeonKr Posted September 10, 2019 Report Posted September 10, 2019 I got this little art work and I was wondering where it is used for. And of there is name for it. Dimension 3x3cm Regards Leon. Quote
ChrisW Posted September 10, 2019 Report Posted September 10, 2019 Looks like a repurposed menuki. Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted September 10, 2019 Report Posted September 10, 2019 Leon, Looks like a Japanese motif, but not sure whether it's a menuki, as Chris mentioned, or just an ornament. The ivory piece it is attached to appears to be an antique cuff button, they were used to attach celluloid cuffs to shirts made from the Victorian era thru to the1920's. -S- 1 Quote
LeonKr Posted September 11, 2019 Author Report Posted September 11, 2019 Thanks gents for the info. I think just an ornament , for a menuki it`s to small ( 18x9mm ) Quote
Guest Posted September 11, 2019 Report Posted September 11, 2019 Could it be a pressed metal kanamono from a Tobacco pouch or similar? Figure reminds me of an Obon Dancer. Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted September 12, 2019 Report Posted September 12, 2019 Could be several things? The figure IS reminiscent of an Oban Dancer! Cheers, -S- Quote
vajo Posted September 12, 2019 Report Posted September 12, 2019 For me it looks like a angry housewife. She comes home from shopping and her man sit in the sun and drink sake (with the neighbour). 4 Quote
Guest Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 Hi Steve, Oban is a measurement in woodblock prints. 1 Quote

TETSUGENDO Posted September 14, 2019 Report Posted September 14, 2019 Hi Steve, Oban is a measurement in woodblock prints. It is, and gold coinage. Typo, meant Obon... thanks for calling it to my attention Malcolm. -S- 1 Quote
