Looks like a repurposed menuki.

Leon,

Looks like a Japanese motif, but not sure whether it's a menuki,  as Chris mentioned,  or just an ornament.    The ivory piece it is attached to appears to be an antique cuff button, they were used to attach celluloid cuffs to shirts made from the Victorian era thru to the1920's.

Could it be a pressed metal kanamono from a Tobacco pouch or similar?

Figure reminds me of an Obon Dancer.

Could be several things? The figure IS reminiscent of an Oban Dancer!

Cheers,

For me it looks like a angry housewife. She comes home from shopping and her man sit in the sun and drink sake (with the neighbour).

I've seen a similar outfit like that, but can't quite remember where.

It is, and gold coinage.   Typo, meant Obon... thanks for calling it to my attention Malcolm.   :)
