zuiho Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 I tracked an auction for an IJA sarute on Ebay that ended with 30 bidders and a final price of $316.00 on July 10. There was nothing special about it . It had cherry blossoms and leaves in the pattern with average wear , no painted highlights, of middling quality. Is this really where the market is (crazy) ? Or, was it a spontaneous and singular feeding frenzy among Ebay sharks? Quote

bmoore1322 Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 I was one of those that was trying to win it, but once it his over 100.00, I quit bidding, just watched it, as i could use one for a Showa sword that is missing it. Makes me wonder if there was some ghost bidding going on there. Brian Quote
Brian Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 Link? I am pretty sure you can buy one here on the NMB for less than a third of that price. Brian Quote
bmoore1322 Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 I believe this is the one he was talking about; http://www.ebay.com/itm/221063495802?ss ... 1435.l2649 Brian Quote
Brian Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 The seller is a reputable and well known NMB member..nothing funny here besides an eBay feeding frenzy between a few bidders trying to outdo each other I suspect. Nice one for the seller. ! Brian Quote
bmoore1322 Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 I was trying to buy it, I just put a limit on myself the max amount I would go. Yes, bidding crazy on eBay can get nuts. Brian Quote
Mark Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 i was the seller. i was suprised at the amount. It might have gone higher but one bidder had zero feedback, i tried to contact him to verify he was serious but did not get a reply so i banned him bidding, the high bidder and underbidder were both "real". I wish i had another. I have had ones sell for $60-70.. guess you never know with eBay Quote
bmoore1322 Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 Like I said, I tried to win it, as I need one for one of my swords, but my max amount was 100.00. Since we are on the subject someone said something to me about one they have for sale, they said it has what is called " monkey's hands " on it. Are you familiar with this one. Brian Quote
Jiro49 Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 Also, Mark is a good guy, plus he knows his swords! Don't hesitate to buy from him. Quote
Brian Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 There is a sarute which has a depiction of clasped hands (monkey hands?) and these are scarcer and fetch a premium over the standard ones. Just google "clasped hands sarute" Brian Quote

zuiho Posted July 14, 2012 Author Report Posted July 14, 2012 Hello, I see that there is interest in buying a sarute. If you go to Lions Gate Arms and Armor in the NMB links you will find two for sale in the "sword fittings/parts" section at earthbound prices. One is a gilt "monkey hands" type suitable for a kai gunto. . Poor photos but they are described as original. William G. Quote
