Lindus Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 Found this tucked away in my documents file, someone sent this ages ago and as I reckoned it was a joke just left it there. Is It??. Quote
bmoore1322 Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 Would this have been made to protect his dog from arrows, or what. Of course it would give protection against sword attacks, just curious if it was made with arrows in mind. Brian Quote
christianmalterre Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 Lindus, if this is an original one-you may ask Robert Winter here in mine eyes... He once sold an near similar one in regard of the execution(this one,but was for an Horse) From which catalogue are those pictures taken from? I just guess-that if this shall be real-it certainly is inside an collection and does not sort out from "noname"...? It somehow reminds me to Kanton workmanship... Christian Quote
Brian Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 I don't think it was really intended to protect a dog from a sword attack or from arrows...maybe more like a status symbol or a novelty. Someone with too much money and a desire to show others how "l33t" he was :D Could have been someone who took his dog to battle though, and didn't want to risk a stray arrow getting through. Any number of possibilities, considering that armorers were like any other craftsman...wanting to do something different occasionally just for fun. Brian Quote
estcrh Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 An unnamed UK museum owns it now..I wonder http://www.asianoffbeat.com/default.asp?Display=1530 Quote
bmoore1322 Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 Regardless of the intent of this, it is really nicely done. Brian Quote
