Ishimaru Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Hi guys! I'm new to this forum and I would appreciate if anyone could give me some information of these two blades. The guy who is selling these sayed that both blades are from edo period but he has no information of who has made these. Both blades are mumei and with shirasaya. Here is some information that I have. Katana: Total length 93,5 cm Nagasa length 70 cm Sori 1 cm Motohada 3 cm Motokasane 0,66 cm Weight 1240 g Wakizashi: Total length 69,7 cm Nagasa length 46,2 cm Sori 0,8 cm Motohada 3 cm Motokasane 0,7 cm Weight 780 g Can anyone tell how old these blades are and guess who or where these blades have been made. chrstphr Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Hi, I would say 1800s for both. Overall shape, lack of sori, and the positions of the mekugi-ana on the katana all point to later than earlier Edo, in my opinion. katana seems to be missing the mune-machi. I like the wak better than the katana, but both look tired. edo period and unsigned would be a flag for me to stay away. my two cents. Chris Quote
Brian Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 Just make sure the seller is known or reputable...not Pawek Nowak or someone else who is a fraudster. They look average to me...mediocre. Brian Quote
raven2 Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 I would agree with mid edo and also think they look pretty tired. Quote
