bollefen Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 I have had a number of swords stolen by a former polisher. Is there a central registry? At least 2 of them are ereadily identifiable with signatures etc a koto and very nice gendai both in shira saya. I have kept an eye on ebay but nothing. kindly, bill Quote
Brian Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Bill, Nothing yet...but a good idea. Do a new post entitled "Stolen sword registry" in this section, and I'll sticky it permanently for people to add to. As much detail as possible obviously. Brian Quote
NihontoEurope Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Ouch! Too bad that items are stolen. A caution though...Keeping registers that hold information about sword possesions/collections would be not so good. Keeping a good record of your swords, photos and photos and even more photos and documentation, would be the best option. If stolen post it on every board possible. I have seen some issues, where sword and tsubas been stolen, before where documentation was from: The name of the smith in text to a poorly taken photo without focus and size, so bad that you would pass it without blinking one eye. In my country there is a firearm law that states that you have to register firearms to the police (not uncommon) and where the firearms are stored. That register is, by law, public. Criminals seek out the information prior to a burglery to see what can be expected during entering (if interupted) and/or what to expect to get. Post images here and you will have more eyes watching. My thoughts. BTW - If the polish was supposed to be performed in Japan...it is registered at the police by law and would be checked when change of owner in Japan or if exported. /Martin Quote
NihontoEurope Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 One suggestion to a "registry" of stolen items would be to open a Facebook page with a connection to this site. Then it is as anonymous as the uploader of images wants to be. What do you say Brian? Easy to manage and small effort/easy to set up. /Martin Quote
b.hennick Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 If you are a member of the JSSUS we would publish descriptions of the stolen blades in our Newsletter. Membership is only $40 in the USA. Quote
Lindus Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Not sure if it still exists but in the UK at one time there was an Auction watch system built around stolen goods, perhaps you should check out if similar exists in the US. Roy Quote
Brian Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Guys, It isn't rocket science. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. You know of stolen swords, you post the info here, we keep a lookout. We aren't asking for a list of your current inventory with your address. Thieves aren't signing up to worldwide forums to see who collects what. Just send or post your list, and let's get it started. Will create a new post that is stickied..no discussions in that one, just details of stolen swords. Brian Quote
