Grey Doffin Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Hi guys, A little help, please, with this sword (which will be for sale). I read the mei as, "Hizen no Kuni Tadaaki", the date as the 2,600th year from the founding, and the last bit appears to be about making this sword but the actual reading has me stumped. Could one of you fill in the blanks and or correct me? Does anyone know anything about this smith? I've been unable to find anything online or in my books. This is a gendai, not just a Showato: very active hamon, tons of stuff happening, quite interesting. Thanks a bunch. Grey Quote
W K Clifford Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 not sure if the name is 忠昭 or not 佳節鍛之 means forged it for festival celebration, i think Quote
John A Stuart Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Kasetsu kitae kore. 'Forged this for an auspicious occasion'. I guess Yimu could be right that the auspicious occasion is during some festival. Yimu, is that your actual everyday name? John Quote
W K Clifford Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Yimu, is that your actual everyday name? John I only have one name to go about with, and that is Yimu, in kanji, 一木. I was nicknamed 一休 Ikkyū when I was little, for the similarity of the names and for being a wiseguy all the time, Quote
cabowen Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 I have never heard of this smith...there were quite a few gendai smiths in Hizen...would make a good research subject... Koki 2600 Nen was a big deal and many swords were made in celebration. It is quite possible that the "auspicious occasion" for which this sword was forged was actually the 2600 anniversary of the founding of the empire..... Quote
John A Stuart Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Thanks Yimu san. I was not sure if it was your name or a 'nom de plume'. Of course that would be a particularly important date Chris. An aha moment. John Quote
