1980s NBTHK Shinsa in the U.S.

Hi all,

 

could maybe anyone be of help to determine the dates of the NBTHK Shinsa in the U.S. in the 1980s.

- Were the Shinsa held at multiple dates and locations in that year?

- And was it the only year that the NBTHK offered a Shinsa abroad?

 

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Not aware that the NBTHK did shinsa in the US in the '80's. The NTHK did though....1984 and 1987 I think....someone will correct me if I am wrong...Grey?

i think i have seen papers from an NBTHK US shinsa, seems it was in Dallas maybe in the late 70's ?

Hello Martin,

 

NTHK shinsa were held in Chicago in 1979, 1984, and 1989, according to Alan Pressley's article titled "Origami I Have Seen". The article goes on to mention possibly two NBTHK shinsa held earlier in the 70's, but that's all.

I can remember hearing of a NBTHK shinsa in the US before my time, possibly somewhere in the Southwest. I came down with my bad case of Nihonto in 1983, so it would have had to have been before then.

I was able to find out from someone who was involved in them: 1972 in Dallas, Texas, 1974 in Newport Beach, California, and 1980 in Dallas again.
