BenVK Posted June 4, 2010 Author Report Posted June 4, 2010 or a hell of a macro lens Kevin :D Nothing special, just a Nikon p5000 camera. The macro is superb for the price though which is why I bought it. I'm a complete novice and don't know whether these tiny nicks are a problem or not. If they are not, that good news, yes? Quote
rkg Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 it looks like nobody mentioned it, so I will - the stamp at the end of the nakago is discussed in detail on page 65 of slough's book about this smith. It appears to indicate that it is of kobuse construction - if that helps... Best, rkg (Richard George) Quote
Curran Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 That would be good news for the new owner? But would kobuse construction exclude oil quench? I don't own Slough's book, but wish I'd picked it up when I'd had the chance. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I don't believe Slough's mention oil/water quench, but regardless it's non-traditional. Whether good/bad for owner, it all depends on what they bought - gendaito or showato. Quote
Linda Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Hi Ben, do you have any photos of this sword. I think I have one by the same maker. The photo link has expired Quote
francois2605 Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Linda, you'll find some pictures for a katana forged by this smith here: You'll also find a section about this swordsmith in this document by Mecox: And finally a close-up showing the hada of the sword from the first link: Quote
francois2605 Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Just found the original pictures from this WAF thread (from BenVK): source 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted February 20, 2022 Report Posted February 20, 2022 This is interesting. This is the 4th blade on record with the "kobuse" or wrapped steel stamp, and all 4 are Kaneshige blades. 1 Quote
WillFalstaff Posted February 21, 2022 Report Posted February 21, 2022 Interesting post, but geez! I didn’t realize but this post was resurrected from 2010!! 1 Quote
