cookiemonstah47 Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 If you know you know. This is assumed to be a loosing gamble. Listing agent: Zev Antiques. If it made it to war mounts then... Quote
Scogg Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 I would not. In my opinion, it looks like a fake. It looks like it’s trying to be a gunto, but the fittings look like the ones often seen on forgeries. Best of luck, -Sam Quote

I'm perplexed as to why someone would take a Heian sword to war. Also the oxidation looks newer on the tang. Could it be a newer blade made in the older style? Quote
Geraint Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 Khalid, the bigger question is why you would think this is a Heian blade? All the best. 4 Quote

Scogg Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 The sugata does not resemble Heian sugata. Personally, I would not go through the effort to see this particular sword in-hand. I think there's enough showing here to raise all the red flags necessary to make an informed decision to avoid this item. I think the blade was made relatively recently, probably outside of Japan, and in an attempt to "look old" for internet photos. All in my opinion of course. Gamble at your own risk. -Sam 3 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 Best to re-consult the reference books if you see any resemblance to a Heian era sword here. Quote
Geraint Posted April 10 Report Posted April 10 Dear Kahlid. Look carefully at the curvature of this blade, what do you see? Then have a look at the habaki. All the best. 2 Quote

Newer stitching is no bueno and would indicate sword is dead on arrival and not worth discussing further. Quote
cookiemonstah47 Posted Monday at 03:35 AM Author Report Posted Monday at 03:35 AM I looked at this again and the wear is too uniform and indicative of emulation. I do not advise traveling to for further examination. 1 Quote
