Matsunoki Posted April 4 Report Posted April 4 I think I can get “Yoshi” but I’m not getting any further. Many thanks in advance, apologies for my poor Mei skills. All the best Colin. Quote
Matsunoki Posted April 4 Author Report Posted April 4 Persistence pays off maybe……is it “Denryusai Yoshiyuki”? (from a aha mani school kozuka of Shoki) 1 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted April 4 Report Posted April 4 Colin, I found a TSUBA by him, and the MEI looks close: 2 Quote

I am sorting out my kozuka collection with a view to selling. I had not remembered that this one was signed until I sat down for a “proper look”! Time to get organised I think🙂 Best. C. Quote
Shugyosha Posted April 4 Report Posted April 4 Hi Colin, I think that might be one I sold you - I’ll check my records in case I still have my notes. Does it have Shoki on the other side? 1 Quote

Can’t quite make up my mind! Quote
Shugyosha Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 Hi Colin, Yes, it's the same one that Jean posted - for some reason I couldn't get that picture on my phone last night. I had it down as "Taryusai Yoshiyuki" Haynes reference H 12344.0 1 Quote
uwe Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 田龍斎義随, Markus has him as Denryūsai in his Meikan, but it might be a typo?! 1 Quote
Matsunoki Posted April 5 Author Report Posted April 5 This explains why I have never really bothered about Mei but instead tried to concentrate on quality!!🙂 This is the Haynes entry that I found……just a couple above yours John. All too confusing for my ageing brain🙂 2 Quote
Shugyosha Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 Hi Colin and Uwe, I went with mine because of the comment in Haynes about the stylised “ta” kanji - but the “Denryusai” one sounds more prestigious in terms of lineage… 1 Quote

You don’t see many of this quality nowadays except maybe Bonhams ….and they have relocated to Paris. UK is a bit of a wasteland, sadly. 3 Quote
Shugyosha Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 That’s very kind, thank you - I’m glad you’re enjoying them. 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted April 6 Report Posted April 6 Either reading of ‘Ta’ or ‘Den’ would be forgiven, but in my Kokin Kinko Zenshu it lists him as ‘Den’, as you can see with the names alongside in Japanese ‘alphabetical’ order. (+Alternative simplified dragon kanji) 2 Quote
