Hello,

May I have your opinion on this kozuka ?

For me it has a strong Goto Ichijo influence. So probably from his school.

I was thinking about Ikkin. However, the trunk is not treated in the same way as usual.

Could it still be Ikkin, or Isshin, Issho... ?

Thanks

Personally I think its late, as in late Meiji period most likely. Many elements are not very traditional, but rather a mixture with western art and decorative techniques of the period. Interesting, attractive, but Goto Ichijo - I don't know.

Quality doesn’t look anywhere near good enough for Goto work……but just my opinion.

Are those flowers plated rather than silver inlay? Is that plate that is wearing off?

Lack of replies is probably because most agree this isn't near Goto work. It's nice...but not next level. Ford would have picked it apart relentlessly I suspect.

Hello

Thanks for your replies.

I checked and for me it is solid inlay and not silver plate.

My opinion was not for Ichijo himself but maybe more for someone under his influence. Maybe a student or someone from his school. but maybe it is later or another school.

Thanks Brian, now understood more why nobody replies. However, I personnally prefer to receive feedback, even negative, or about average or late quality, rather than no response at all. It's a good starting point for studying and learning. :)

Most important thing : whatever it is, I like it :glee:

Probably you have seen this:  https://wakeidou.com/pages/640/

Ichijo work.

His student Ikkin could do this sort of design even better, though he kinda worked to the level he was getting paid.

Thus, some stunningly detailed Ikkin works, and some kinda mailing it in.

This is an example of "mailing it in"  :  F24524.jpg

Is yours Ichijo school?

Hard to know. I would say No.

I understand @Rivkin point that it might be Meiji work. The focus is more on decoration, less on detail. That does point more towards Meiji.
