jdawg221 Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 So recently got a Takahashi naganobu daito, and noticed this odd rust on the kissaki. Almost looks like a hagire but it's not present on the other side and isn't straight. Here are some pictures. Any thoughts on how this could've formed? 1 Quote
Rawa Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 (edited) Check saya if there isn’t moisture. It’s red active rust probably formed during delivery. Isoprophyl alcohol 99%? Edited January 13 by Rawa 1 Quote

ChrisW Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Looks like fresh "spiderweb" rust. Address that with some isopropyl and then oil it. May not remove it all, but will stop it from getting worse hopefully. 2 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 How does the other side look like? First comes a diagnosis, then the therapy. Quote
Robert S Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 As I posted recently, I do have a tanto which has an actual crack on one side which doesn't show on the other, and which isn't straight, I would recommend getting a camera with a good macro lens, or a strong magnifying glass, to confirm whether it's rust or an actual crack in a layer of the steel.
