Kennyu Posted November 12, 2025 Report Posted November 12, 2025 Hey guys, looking for a bit of help on this type94 I've seen and possibly buy. Because of my location it is unfortunately on the expensive side and i do not want to get burnt because I'd never be able to recoup the money lost. All I'm aware about is it's a type 94 sword made by showa - it does not come with any sort of paperwork. I'd appreciate if you guys could give me your expertise and tell me if it's authentic or not. Much appreciated for all the help. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted November 12, 2025 Report Posted November 12, 2025 Hi Kenny, welcome to the forum. To begin this is a Type 98 made circa 1943, the small stamp indicates it's non-traditional. 3 1 Quote
mecox Posted November 12, 2025 Report Posted November 12, 2025 Mei is Kaneuji, smith is Yoshida Kaneuji. Not sure of date it is years of Japanese Empire, maybe 2601 which is 1941 ( but rusted). Yours has SHO stamp Slough has an example with SEKI stamp dated June 1942 and kokuin. Not sure if your mounts are Type 94 but Type 98 1 1 Quote
EdWolf Posted November 12, 2025 Report Posted November 12, 2025 Hi Kenny, I agree with John. Type 98 mountings and not a traditional made blade. 1 Quote
Rawa Posted November 12, 2025 Report Posted November 12, 2025 Look in Australia for first sword. There is plenty. Post in „want to buy” many members living there. Quote

Do you guys think it's worth the AUD 3000$ mark? Quote
John C Posted November 12, 2025 Report Posted November 12, 2025 1 hour ago, Kennyu said: Type 94. The single hanger suggests type 98. In that condition (see the reproduction brass seppa?) I would not go anywhere near 3000 AUD for a non-traditional blade. You can get a star-stamped gendaito for that kind of money. John C. 2 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted November 12, 2025 Report Posted November 12, 2025 I have this blade on file from @phil reid, back in 2021, as "1940". Looking at his other blades, the date kanji line up well for that year. Such a gunto, in today's market, rans more like $1,200-1,400 USD, which is about 2,000 Aus dollars. 1 Quote
