Foletta Posted Monday at 09:22 AM Report Posted Monday at 09:22 AM (edited) I recently found a sword that has been with the family since the end of the war . It was given to a young boy as a gift from a U.S. Marine General. The Generals name was W A Worton and he was given the sword at the Tientsin China Surrender by Major General K Omoto . The swords nagasa is a large 32 inches with a ubu Tang . It shows signs of being a Kanemoto sword. Jizo Boshi with a Hamon of an uneven rounded Sunbonsugi . It also has togariba . The ji is a itame mixed mokume . I am interested in some comment. Thank you Geoff Edited Monday at 11:05 AM by Foletta 2 Quote
Scogg Posted Wednesday at 04:43 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 04:43 AM Obligatory disclaimer that I’m no expert. Can you get a photo of the whole blade without fittings or habaki? Preferably centered from above on a dark non reflective background? I’m surprised nobody has commented on this one yet. To me, just based on its shape, this looks like a potentially interesting sword, and with some unique and cool provenance. Are you, or the owner, able or willing to get it looked at by an expert or togishi? Might be interesting, -Sam Quote
Brian Posted Wednesday at 06:12 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 06:12 AM Agree with Sam. Problem is I don't think there is much more that can be said from the pics. Looks very interesting, and worth getting in the hands of someone with experience. But looks like a potentially good sword. Quote

Well, as you have probably deduced, the shumei also looks somewhat like Kanemoto. This is valuable due to being ubu and the great, documented provenance. It looks healthy and in polish it might be a very good sword. 1 Quote
Rivkin Posted Wednesday at 07:32 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:32 PM Does look like the early shinto Kanemoto. Quote
