george trotter Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Hi Bob, Stephen is correct...full inscription is FUKUMOTO AMAHIDE. I would say it is a Showato. The mei is what is called "daisaku daimei"...written by Fukumoto Amahide's son Kanemune. These are a well-known group of WWII Seki swordsmiths...opinions vary as to quality. There is quite a bit of information on them, with examples of mei in John Slough's book..pp. 24-27. Regards, George. Quote
David Flynn Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 I would also agree with George, this is most likely an oil quenched showato. Quote
