Francis Wick Posted September 26 Report Posted September 26 I tried to use the Sword Smith kanji help pages and got as far as “ Saku Kore “ I have decided I’m pretty helpless at this ! 😂 if anybody is willing to take a “stab” at this, I would appreciate it. It looks Shinto or Shin Shinto Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 26 Report Posted September 26 Please see below for information on Katsumura Norikatsu. Yours is dated a day in the second month of Keio two (1866). https://nihontoclub.com/view/smiths/meisearch?order=field_smith_start_era_value&sort=asc&type=All&mei_op=contains&mei=勝村徳勝 Quote
Francis Wick Posted September 26 Author Report Posted September 26 Thank you for the quick reply Ray. At first glance, looking at a few other examples it looks gimei to me for sure. Quote
uwe Posted September 26 Report Posted September 26 Like Ray pointed out “於東都水府住勝村徳勝作之” (Tōto ni oite Suifu jū Katsumura Norikatsu kore o saku). 1 1 Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted September 26 Report Posted September 26 What makes you think it is gimei, Francis? Quote
Francis Wick Posted September 26 Author Report Posted September 26 I compared to a few existing examples not that there are many on the Internet to look at and the way that the kanji are inscribed and shaped look very different. His signature is typically very finely and very carefully carved. Specifically, the last character of the date looks very different. 1 Quote
