Hello,

Came across this type 95 gunto for sale and would like some opinions on whether or not it’s authentic. One thing I noticed was the bohi being kinda low on one side but I’ll leave that for the people who know much then me to decide. Any info on it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chansen

hi Chansen, don't rush in to buy this.

Terrible pictures but from what I can see, its a fake (IMO).

I am sure I have seen this same sword lying on the concrete only recently but cant seem to find the thread on NMB (?).

Others will chime in.

Thanks for the reply rob I just recently saw the thread you were mentioning that said it was a fake. It was just something I spotted while looking for ww2 Japanese swords but it did kinda look off to me so I’d figured I should get a second opinion on it. Also just came across a type 32 cavalry saber which looks way more promising and has all the correct arsenal stampings.

As said above, definitely a fake.

You're correct to flag the bohi. The font of the serial number on the saya is also wrong and the wrong size. The shape of the saya opening is off, also. The other photos are conveniently distant, which possibly helps obscure more fake identifiers.

Would love to see the Type32! In my limited experience, those are faked less often; but never say never.
Blade length is an important feature on those, to determine if it's the OTSU type, or the KO type.
All the best,
-Sam
