Wangzi Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 Hello fellow militaria collectors, I’d appreciate your expertise on this Japanese Army Type 94 Guntō featuring exceptional Wakase-style Koshirae. Seller told me the second suspension ring is a genuine one,but does not belong to this Koshirae set. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Quote

Bruce Pennington Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 By the look of the paint underneath, I'd agree the haikan was not original. Nice set of fittings, though. Would you mind displaying the second haikan, and showing how it comes apart? We had a discussion about these and the various ways they were built: Quote
Navy Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 Am I wrong or usually the 94's have the pierced tsuba? 1 Quote
rebcannonshooter Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 I have an absolutely original, high end 94 and it does not have a pierced tsuba. But, I don't how prevalent they were on 94's or if pierced were more common. Tom M. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 Wakase fittings are one of the makers that introduced the solid Tsuba early on, there have been a few Koshirae over the years from Wakase that have two original hangers. Certainly an exception, not a rule. 1 1 Quote

To my knowledge, there should be three variations of the hanger, I hope this could help. Zi 1 1 Quote

Wangzi Posted June 10 Author Report Posted June 10 To be honest, I have never met a type 94 gunto with Wakase fitting. It is a pity that the second hanger is not original. The dealer asked for about 5000 US dollars for it. I know that it is expensive, but I think I would take it if it has two original hangers. So Im asking for some suggestions if it is worth the price for its rarity. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted June 10 Report Posted June 10 That is an absolutely absurd sum for a Koshirae, leave him to his delusions. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted June 10 Report Posted June 10 Yes, even if the second hanger were original, the set wouldn't be worth $5,000 USD on the market! That's twice the price of a full Type 94 with a gendai blade in it. 1 Quote
Wangzi Posted June 11 Author Report Posted June 11 Actually it has a blade inside with a Mei "兼國". I just ignored the blade becoz I do like this Koshirae.😅 You guys are right, it is too expensive even with a whole blade. 1 Quote
