Saipan Joe Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 Hello I need your assistance with translating this Tsuba. Quote
Brian Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 It's upside down. Please edit and rotate. Can't even see a mei. Quote
Kurikata Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 Very faint signature indeed. Please provide a better picture. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 Joe, this is really difficult. Perhaps we can see more with a dark background (for increased contrast) and light from the side. Do you have some dimensions of your TSUBA? It reminds me of TÔSHÔ style, but it is possibly a revival piece, EDO JIDAI. You can see the conch shell (in fact a sea snail) motif from time time. Quote
Saipan Joe Posted May 6 Author Report Posted May 6 Hello, Please see the new attachments, tsubasize 78x78x3 mm Joe Quote
SteveM Posted May 6 Report Posted May 6 Suggested with slight reservation 早乙女 家貞 Saotome Iesada (I just noticed some Japanese sites list the reading as Sōtome Ieasada. I think most would intuitively read this as Saotome, so the reading of Sōtome is a bit unusual/unexpected for me.) Quote
