Pav Posted April 29 Report Posted April 29 Hi Could anyone help with translation please? Also what number 25 on end of nakago means? Thank you very much for your help. Pav 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 29 Report Posted April 29 I believe this is: Mei (name): 継義作 - Tsuguyoshi saku Nengo (date): 昭和十八年八月日 (a day in August, 1943) Per Markus Sesko below: "TSUGUYOSHI (継義), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gunma – “Imai Ichiryūshi Tsuguyoshi” (今井一龍子継義), “Tsuguyoshi” (継義), real name Imai Fujitarō (今井藤太郎), born 1902, gō Ichiryūshi (一龍子), he studied under Kasama Shigetsugu (笠間繁継) and worked as rikugun-jumei-tōshō" 3 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted April 29 Report Posted April 29 Pav, Can you get a shot of the bare naked nakago? There could be a star a bit higher. These numbered blades (and I see "ク125") are likely series by the Army fulfilling a contracted amount of blades. With very few exceptions, we see these numbers only on blades of RJT smiths (talking Army not Navy). I have another August '43 from him, so it probably has a star! 1943, Aug Tsuguyoshi (RJT) – Gunma ク122, Star Lareon, NMB, T98 1 Quote
Pav Posted April 30 Author Report Posted April 30 Hi Bruce Yes, star stamp is present. Barely visible but its there. Sorry for photo quality, thats all that I have Pav 1 1 Quote
nulldevice Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 I believe this is the other sword @Bruce Pennington was talking about made by the same smith, star stamped, and numbered 122. @Pav It would be great to see the rest of the blade and compare to this one. Quote
Lareon Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 I'm also happy to post more info on my one if you want something specific. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 Trivia note: While the arsenal stamped blades were almost totally tachi mei, the star-stamped blades were roughly 1/3 katana mei (like the Tsuguyoshi blades) and 2/3 tachi mei. No idea why. 1 Quote
