Dagamas Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 Hello everyone, I am in possession of an old Japanese sword. After removing the blade from the handle, I saw the signature. After many hours of trying to decipher this inscription, I unfortunately gave up. I am fascinated by the art of Japanese craftsmanship. I would greatly appreciate your help in dating this blade. Thank you in advance for any valuable information on this subject. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 Hi Matt, unfortunately this is immediately identifiable as a chinese fake. http://www.jssus.org/nkp/fake_japanese_swords.html 4 Quote
Brian Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 Very poor Chinese fake. Sorry. This one should be easily spotted with basic study. The above should be required reading before any purchase. Feel free to ask before any purchases, you'll get good advice. Hopefully it was dirt cheap. 2 Quote
Dagamas Posted September 20, 2024 Author Report Posted September 20, 2024 I am very surprised that the Chinese would make such a fake... Quote
Lewis B Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 The Chinese are past masters at fakery eg Rolex and LV knockoffs. These swords are lazy attempts to deceive. 1 Quote

This is textbook fake...has every feature you don't want to see. There is nothing really that looks even remotely real there, sorry. If you put all the bad points of fakes together, this is what it looks like. The Chinese have made tens of thousands of these, if not hundreds of thousands. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 Hello Matt! Sorry about your bad news. Most, if not all, of us made the same mistake early on in our collecting careers. I've still got my poor fake! Spend some time drooling over the pristine examples of real swords on Ohmura's site. Once used to seeing the real thing, the fakes will stand out better when you encounter them: Military Swords of Imperial Japan - Ohmura China is not the only country putting out fakes. Poland and India are also known for them. Quote
Brendan campbell Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 They’re trying to make it look old and period. Old proverb , you can’t polish a turd. Quote
