peter Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 Hello to all, i went to a small military fair today looking to buy a tassel, instead i got another sword, could any one help with reading the signiture and date as i,ve been through my books and as yet haven,t got much, thank you, Peter Quote
John A Stuart Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 I think it says Noshu Seki ju Kanetsugu saku. John Showa ju roku nen ni gatsu, February 1941 Quote
Mark Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 i agree 2/1941 but maybe kanemichi? Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 It's Kanemichi (Mei = Noshu Seki Ju Nin Kanemichi Saku). See attached - look familiar (Slough's, pg's 46-48)? He was a smith of some repute and was a 2 Million Yen rated smith. Any pics of the blade? Quote
peter Posted December 6, 2009 Author Report Posted December 6, 2009 THanks so much guys, it seems a good strong blade, few nicks, wakizashi in size with a showa stamp,no sign of a yokote tho, i,ll post a few more pics to get more of your thoughts, and i will take more pics of the way i bought it, many thanks again, Peter Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 I think that you did really quite well. More than likely a showato piece, but not necessarily, and a showa period Wakizashi? Very rare! I didn't get any indication from the kissaki, that it was shortened. Also, the lack of a yokote isn't too surprising. The attention given to blades during the polish process wasn't what many blades deserved - and conversely, in some situations more attention than lower quality pieces deserve. Nice job! Quote
Stephen Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 if you can get a pix of boshi ill go with the wak, AON looks like it was at one time a katana. Quote
John A Stuart Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Yes, there is no hamon visible in the pics of the kissaki. ??? John Quote
peter Posted December 6, 2009 Author Report Posted December 6, 2009 Thanks John, i,ve taken a few more pics, i can just see the hamon but it may not come out on the pics, let me know, Thanks, Quote
John A Stuart Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Hi Peter, I see a gunome pattern in the third pic down. What I and I think Stephen wants to see is the hamon in the tip of the sword. just to make sure it hasn't been shortened from that end. John Quote
peter Posted December 6, 2009 Author Report Posted December 6, 2009 to be honest john i think it has the hamon goes straight of the blade at the curve of the tip, how will this affect the value of the blade as it,s a known maker? Quote
John A Stuart Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Hi Peter, If that is the case it is a fatal flaw. It impacts the value immensely. I do not know what the price was, but, if that was not mentioned in the item description and you are sure and if it makes you unhappy I would see about canceling the transaction and returning it for the money. That is only if it indeed is as you think. John Quote
peter Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 Thank you John, i will keep the blade as i only paid 100 pounds for it, if only to look out for better fittings for it, Peter Quote
