Brian Posted March 14, 2024 Report Posted March 14, 2024 Another one from the seller of the Kyu Gunto. At least we have a mei on this one. Described as antique blade, it's in fairly decent Shin Gunt mounts. Again, not looking to purchase, just want to know what it is. Fairly poorly signed... Fujiwara Kanemitsu? Can't make out the top mei above the mekugi ana..special order or part of the mei....? Thanks all. Quote
Brian Posted March 14, 2024 Author Report Posted March 14, 2024 Wonder if it could be this guy? Seems to be a thin suguha hamon, but mostly out of polish/ Quote Kanemitsu (包光), Kan´ei (寛永, 1624-1644), Yamashiro – „Yamashiro no Kuni Fushimi-jū Monju Fujiwara Kanemitsu“ (山城国伏見住 文珠藤原包光), Kanemitsu came originally from Yamato and worked also in Ōsaka, mostly a suguha Quote
Nobody Posted March 14, 2024 Report Posted March 14, 2024 伊賀守 - Iga no kami? But I am unsure about the second kanji. Quote
Brian Posted March 14, 2024 Author Report Posted March 14, 2024 Thank you Moriyama san. Searching the forum took me right back to this forum I wonder if this is the same sword that I was asked about 7 years back? https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/22558-one-just-sent-to-me/ If so, it's poorly photographed now. Don't remember who asked me about it way back. Could be the same sword rotating around South Africa. If so, we still have no idea who he was, or if it's Showa era or earlier? Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 14, 2024 Report Posted March 14, 2024 Same sword, the rust pattern at the Mekugi Ana match. Good quality Type 98 mounts, the writing under the Fuchi could be the officers name. Most collectors would be happy with it, assuming the blade is good condition. Quote
Brian Posted March 14, 2024 Author Report Posted March 14, 2024 Not at $1580 though Still trying to decide if this is an earlier blade or a wartime blade. Can't even see if it's forged or an arsenal blade. Can't find the smith listed anywhere. Quote
Brian Posted March 14, 2024 Author Report Posted March 14, 2024 Moved to Militaria Section in case anyone can find anything about the smith. Shinshinto or Gendaito? Doesn't appear to be a Shinto to me, especially with one ana. One of the 2 WW2 smiths maybe? Better pics of the sword in the old thread about this one posted above. Thanks. Quote
