Hello from a soggy  flooded UK, hope you are all well.

I’m asking a lot here especially as the subject is not sword related. Could anyone please tell me what these inscriptions say? They are on the tomobako of a Japanese Work of Art from the Taisho period that is said to have a provenance back to the Imperial family….which of course is very interesting.

Many thanks in advance to anyone that is prepared to help. Greatly appreciated.

Regards. Colin

Outside of the box says "Copper Rabbits"

Inside says

"Bequest from Matsuo

Two copper rabbit ornaments, made by Ryōzan, handed down from from Yanagiwara Tenji (Taishō Emperor's mother).  "

Can't get the very last two words of the description. And I can't get the name of the person who wrote the description. Yamauchi something?

Edit: I guess the last two kanji in the description are 拝啓 (Sincerely or Respectfully)

Correction: the last two kanji in the description say 拝領 (hairyō - to receive something from a person of high status)

Any photos of the rabbits? Because now I am curious.

Charles, hmmmm…I do not own these and maybe I was pushing my luck a bit by posting images of the inscriptions. I’m not going to buy them (£too much) so maybe I’d better play safe and disappoint you. My apologies. Colin.

I can offer a bit of downvote: during early Showa Emperor's visits and gifts were quite common, plus properties of some members of the family was sold off after the war.

Having an item with such provenance in Japan is not too uncommon. Very often these are small silver trinkets, but on occasion one can get a full china set or something else.

The quality is very good though.
