A guy I know has a Japanese sword that his Uncle brought back.  I would like to buy it but not sure what to offer him.  Here are some pics.

Thanks,

lujo

Del,

the important part is the tang of the sword. Please show close-up pictures of it (tip upwards) without HABAKI (brass collar), both sides, so we can help you.

Best place would be the Military Swords of Japan  section

Jean,

when I first looked at it I wanted to take the handle off but it did not have a peg.  I tried to loosen the screw but it just kept going around like it was stripped.  I don't have the sword yet.  Thanks for your reply.

Jean,

thanks for getting back to me.  It does have a screw & you can partially see it in one of the pics.  The pic is the last pic here.  I have to find out what the screw is inserted into.

Thanks again,

lujo

In those mounts, you are almost guaranteed that it's a mass produced arsenal blade. It will likely be signed by one of the many wartime smiths making Showato.
I'd guess at a value of $650-750

Thank You all for the information.  I will let you know how I make out when I go look at it again.  I tried to find one of similar style on the internet with the same type of fittings for sale but I cannot find any.

Thanks,

lujo
