Paz Posted August 3, 2023 Report Posted August 3, 2023 Hi please see photos attached. Is anybody able to make out the translation?. Is this tsuba old or new ? Or just a replica. Thanks Quote

Ray Singer Posted August 3, 2023 Report Posted August 3, 2023 Is there anything signed on the other side, on the left? The left wouid typically have a artist name, Kinai saku, etc... Quote
Paz Posted August 3, 2023 Author Report Posted August 3, 2023 Hi @Ray Singernothing from what I can see. But the sword is a ko uda Tokubetsu Hozon. But I don't know about the koshiare. The saya is new. Tsuka is new aswell. So this isn't chinese fake tsuba ? Thanks Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 3, 2023 Report Posted August 3, 2023 You are only showing a portion of the tsuba. It appears to be an authentic antique, however I would much prefer to see clear photos of the entire piece and not just the small sections of the tsuba. Quote
Paz Posted August 3, 2023 Author Report Posted August 3, 2023 Hi @Ray Singerthis is the other side. I can't see any other text on the other side. Except what I see. Thanks Paz Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 3, 2023 Report Posted August 3, 2023 This appears to be a authentic antique tsuba. I was referring to the left side of the same face you showed earlier. Quote
Paz Posted August 4, 2023 Author Report Posted August 4, 2023 Hi @Ray Singer here's the other side. And the whole tsuba. Kind regards Paz Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 4, 2023 Report Posted August 4, 2023 The left side appears to be Kinai saku Quote
Spartancrest Posted August 4, 2023 Report Posted August 4, 2023 The tsuba is genuine - but is the signature? The style is not typical of Kinai. Has anyone seen Kinai guards in Katakiri-bori? The Kinai school mostly did Nikubori-ji-sukashi / Marubori-sukashi. The design is very similar to this guard. https://www.espace4....dragon-among-clouds/ JMHO Quote
Paz Posted August 4, 2023 Author Report Posted August 4, 2023 I am very new to tsuba, literally don't know much. So any possible date or guess ? Thanks Quote
Larason2 Posted August 10, 2023 Report Posted August 10, 2023 Kinai tsuba were 17th to 19th century, Echizen province of Japan. There's another one with this theme on the Ashmolelan website: http://jameelcentre....0/EA_X_10458-a-L.jpg But I agree it doesn't look typical. But I have no reason to doubt the signature! I quite like it, thanks for posting. Quote
Deez77 Posted August 26, 2023 Report Posted August 26, 2023 I have two in my collection that I always considered atypical for the Kinai school (assuming the signatures are genuine), although occasionally I would see somewhat similar examples. They seem to fit with your example. Regards Damon Quote
