Bugyotsuji Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 Any gifts ('to oneself' even) out there? My gift was possibly the oldest tsuba I have ever owned. Photos follow. Actually it was a gut-given gamble. I was sitting sharing a coffee with some aficionados at an outside flea market on Sunday when I decided to take a punt. Yes, I agree, I could just as well have spent my money on a lottery ticket, but hey, no need to say that! Nadé mokko, iron (ko?)Katchū-Shi, iron fukurin, 中空耳 8.3 x 7.5 x 0.2 cm @nakago ana, (0.75 cm at mimi). 6 1 Quote
b.hennick Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 You forgot to mention that it is ubu! That is a big thing for ko katushi or katushi tsuba. 3 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 27, 2022 Author Report Posted December 27, 2022 Thanks for that Barry, I was kind of thinking it was a minus! 1 Quote
waljamada Posted December 30, 2022 Report Posted December 30, 2022 Bought myself two Polish Akira Kurosawa movie posters from the 80's and a Katana I resisted getting for quite a while. 4 3 Quote

rematron Posted December 30, 2022 Report Posted December 30, 2022 I bought myself my very first Nihonto from Eric Molinier. It’s exactly what I wanted and I’ll let you read the details as they were posted. Didn’t break the bank and something I can play with and get my head out of buying and into learning for if and when I purchase something that I can’t play with for fear of scratching it. I might get a window polish sometime in the future but if I ever have it fully polished, I’ll obviously never be able or even want to put it in this koshirae again. In the meantime, I upgraded it with the tsuba I bought in Kyoto back in 2008. 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 30, 2022 Author Report Posted December 30, 2022 Great piece to help get familiarized with parts and vocabulary. I learn so much from each piece that passes into my hands. PS That Tsuba looks a natch on there! 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted December 30, 2022 Report Posted December 30, 2022 I got a bilingual (English) copy of Nihon no Bi by Gakken. Wonderful book with a lot of information and eye candy to look at! Has a ton of very beautiful blades in 100% or close to scale size. Quote
