b.hennick Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Hello: I have been able to translate the date as being a lucky day in February Showa 18 (1943) but I could use some assistance with the mei. Thanks! Quote
Mark Green Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 It could be Katsunori Tsuku kore Tattori 1940 8pt kat 144 in Hawleys Not sure about the rest. Mark G Found this not too sure now. http://home.earthlink.net/~ttstein/katsnori.jpg Quote
Nobody Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 The mei might be ... 烏城鍛刀舎勝則造之 (Ujo-Tantosha Katsunori tsukuru kore) Katsunori of Ujo-Forge of swords made this. BTW, the month is not February but December. Quote
b.hennick Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 Thank you for the translation. I must have missed the character for ten and just read the two -- February 2nd month rather than December 12th month If anyone has informaiton on this smith I would appreciate receiving it. The blade has a tight grain - not muji and a choji hamon. Quote
Brian Hancock Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Hi Barry, Just found this in 1st.edition Hawleys. "Katsunori. Tottori. Modern Army Blade Assn " Ka1479c Hope this helps a bit. Brian Quote
b.hennick Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 Hi Brian: I saw the same listing but I am not sure that he is the same smith...Perhaps there is a different reading for the kanji. Nobody but nobody knows for sure.... :D I have to say thank you again for your efforts on my behalf and that of the collecting community who struggles with translation. THANK YOU!! Quote
