kissakai Posted June 16, 2022 Report Posted June 16, 2022 I'd admired a tsuba from the Birmingham museum and fortunately met a UK tsuba maker He showed me one of his tsuba and I asked him to make a copy of the Birmingham Long story short: It arrived a few weeks ago and I was stunned at the result (attached) I've not taken proper pictures yet and these are just quick snaps Due to various personal circumstances he is no longer taking on any commission work I hope you like it as much as I do PS. The tsuba is made from 14C German horseshoes NMB.pdf! 4 2 1 Quote
Matsunoki Posted June 16, 2022 Report Posted June 16, 2022 I’m no tsuba expert…but that is stunning workmanship. What a talent. Quote
Toryu2020 Posted June 16, 2022 Report Posted June 16, 2022 A very nice job of copying the original - I am wondering did he make the choice to copy the signature or was that something you asked for? Did he include any hidden tells that it is a copy, like the punches in the kuchibeni? -t Quote
kissakai Posted June 16, 2022 Author Report Posted June 16, 2022 I saw an utsushi example and asked him to copy the format and adding his forging name Punches are a good start but there is another big tell but I'll leave for someone else to chip in I'll reveal a bit more later Quote
1kinko Posted June 16, 2022 Report Posted June 16, 2022 Nice work. No 14 C (not C14) horse shoes available here. I’m jealous. Quote
kissakai Posted June 19, 2022 Author Report Posted June 19, 2022 It is Jean. He uses it because of it's English translation I'm away for a few days so no more relies are possible Quote
