Kogerasu maru copy?

Hi Guys, I am here as a new member as my original would not open or recognise my password, and several attempts and emails failed

I was TH previously with a few posts over the years

I bought this last year as a "kogerasu maru copy by a 16th??? century smith"   according to the dealer at an arms fair in the UK

He said he had the signature checked but could not find his copy

I have not bought any swords for some years so gave it a go

 

 

 

 

It has an old iron tsuba which I do't think is original

The fuchi/kashira look a little funny

suguha hamon, the hada is difficult, muji?

I can post more pics if that helps

Could someone give me an idea of the smith p[lease?

LOVE this blade shape. That will definitely not be muji. Just overpolished/buffed. Needs some restoration.

I think the signature is - 東山住大江美平 - Higashiyama jū Ōe Yoshihira. The smith was from latter part of 1600's.

This was sold to someone in 2014 as a Tashi. This will be one for the books respectively .

I think this blade is not a Utsushi of the Kogarasu maru but it is the same Tsukuri.

I think the Hada is like Brian said not muji, the long Ware near the tip seems to follow a bigger pattern.

Where is the gold dragon that was mounted on the saya? Not good photos, but looks like some dulling where it was mounted. Fare stretch on my question.

Pat - do you have any further info or history of the sword?

Was it sold in the US or UK?

I shows some signs of "copperising"?
