Bruce Pennington Posted December 12, 2021 Report Posted December 12, 2021 @BIG posted this one HERE, but I had one earlier from someplace else. Just out of curiosity, and like, what else is going on!, could someone break down and translate the 3 sections on these. There is a curious circled marking on both that is the same, but the other inscriptions are different on the 2 blades. First one: And the one Peter posted: Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 12, 2021 Author Report Posted December 12, 2021 Ah, and after taking a second look, I can see that the bonji of both blades seem to be shortened and longer versions of the same thing. Would still enjoy hearing what they are all saying. Thanks in advance to you fine fellows that do this work for us!!! Quote
BIG Posted December 12, 2021 Report Posted December 12, 2021 Hi Bruce, your example is a Daito from a well known Daisho Yamato den. There are rising dragons on the blade with bonji over the dragons. 1 Quote

SteveM Posted December 13, 2021 Report Posted December 13, 2021 The writing in the bit that seems a bit recessed inside the tang is an invocation of a buddhist god (well, buddhist by way of hinduism). 大聖観喜天 - Daishōkangiten https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangiten 2 1 Quote

Tom Darling Posted December 16, 2021 Report Posted December 16, 2021 Thank you for making that clear. The one I compared it to, may have also made juyo. It mentioned in large strokes, if I remember ( in 1974) correctly, something, something '5000 years ------------ ------- ------ etc. A Japanese nihonto dealer bought it. It may be listed as a juyo?
